Is the red high mileage antifreeze that the factory installs the same as the "GM Approved DEX-COOL" that I see sold at the auto parts stores?

Yeah, I'm planning on sticking with it, but when I put in the 180 degree thermostat I wanted some coolant to replenish what I spill. Is the factory fill the same as the "DEX-COOL" stuff?

same as the "DEX-COOL" stuff? I thought the DEX-COOL was orange? Maybe it depends on the manufactuer but i would have sworn it was orange.

DO NOT use the "GM" 5/100k coolant, I wouldn't even get it at autozone, checker, or auto stores, pay a little more and get some directly from the dlr.
gm's is different than our "Dodge" 5/100k coolant.

Jeff the prestone 5/150 silver bottled coolant says it is DC approved on the back label(ms-7170,ms-9769) it also says GM Dex-cool approved. The factory puts the orange high mileage in the 4.7l, 5.2l,5.9l, and the 5.7l engines I think. Look in the owners manual and it will state approved coolant to use.

Thanks Peppe, I'll check it out. I didn't think that DC would have their own coolant, but I wasn't sure.

Cheby uses DexCool® (OAT), Dodge uses Glysantin® (HOAT) in some vehicles.

Here is an article on HOAT:
http://www.imcool.com/articles/antifreeze-coolant/G05-Glysantin.htm

from article: "...[Glysantin] is compatible with traditional green product, but mixing with too much green may lower the coolant life."

DON'T use DexCool...

Road75,
Thanks for the link. You kept me from making a potentially expensive mistake!

You would think that the owners manual would tell you about the recommended coolant, but all it says is to use HOAT techanology coolant. How many consumers have a clue as to what that is? Not me!

That site has several useful articles about cooling systems and air conditioning systems. Once again, appreciate the info!

Just read that article on the new DC Coolant. It was very interesting.
