I ended up buying a 3 jaw puller. Worked great. Now the water pump and timing belt have been changed. Aligned all timing marks on crank and cam shafts. I reassembled. Engine turns but will not crank. I've rechecked routing of belts and electrical connections but everything SEEMS to be fine. Check engine light does not come on. I am stumped. Hopefully I won't have to re do this project. Anyone have any suggestions?

I performed the same job on my 96 Stratus ES (2.0L, 4cyl) and I have the same problem! I am stumped so after a week of trying I finally took it to the shop yesterday. Anyone know what's wrong? I would like to know so I can have an idea of what i should be paying.

Make sure everything that was unplugged is plugged in. Recheck the timing. What else did you take off?

I replaced the water pump.. that's about it. Everything else is assembled correctly. The shop determined it was my cylinder head. I was told that it could be damaged if my timing belt went while driving at highway speeds, but everything looked ok when i opened the head and it cranked fine. I'm guessing there was indeed some valve damage. i'm picking up the car tomorrow. Shop work $600!! OUch! Never put in a head before, not sure if i should've tackled myself.

I had the timing belt on my 2.4 replaced a couple of weeks ago, and the shop bent two pullers before they got a Chrysler puller, specifically made for those pulleys to get the job done.....not sure the cost, but it is needed. The pulley is press-fit on the crank, and does not just come off like a Ford or GM. The puller is a Chrysler part number, and is used on those engines, and a few others. Just a little FYI.

i just put a timing belt and water pump on my 86 stratus 2.4 and it did not start the first time and i had the timing one full rotation on the crank out, reset it and now running.
