Hey guys n gals, if you havent seen it yet, The current issue of Motor Trend has a big writeup on the new coupe (which adorns the front cover as well!). :gr_patrio

Not a bad article considering it came from a Z06-cult-leader publication... Looks like they may have gotten a preproduction model that wasn't quite running at 100%.. The reason the current ragtop is so quick to 60 is that a 1-2 shift is not required until 62mph (or so) which makes for some wicked sub-4 second 0-60 runs... but this particular coupe they tested needed 2nd gear to reach 60. I think it was all just a ploy so that their chart at the end of the article showed the Z06 (tested last month) coming out on top. Cowards.

Well, it is something to be expected by biased magazines. :)

The Viper does in fact have trouble with the C6 with the 427Cid V8 producing 505hp and (was it?) 520tq. ;)

For you liter guys: the 427Cid is a 7.0L. :D

Yeah, MT keeps recommending the Z06 over the Viper, saying its just as fast if not faster for cheaper. But I don't think DCX is that concerned. They still have a badass car and they sell every copy they build.

I'd rather have the exclusivity anyway.

The 505Cid Magnum V10 produces 500hp while Chevrolet's 427Cid Vortec V8 produces 505hp...which one looks like it has more potential?

*giggles to himself* :D

In case you guys didn't know, under the new revision J1349 SAE HP testing, the Viper gained 10 horses(!) for a nice bragging number of 510..
Under the old SAE net ratings, BOTH the 7.0 and the Viper made 500 horses. The vette only gained 5 horses with the new test..

under the new revision J1349 SAE HP testing,

That sounded dorkish.

That sounded dorkish.

Yeah it kinda does, but there is nothin' more dorkier than comparing the new HP numbers of the 427 with the old numbers of the 505...but glad to know the Viper still has an edge. :D

May be only five extra horses, however the torque remains unreachable for the General. :)

Cool.

There's factory tuner Z06 that's quite a bit faster than the standard Z06 that has been used for magazine testing. In the real world both cars are so close that it is more driver skill than car. But with equal drivers the Z06 will be slightly faster due to its lower weight. The Viper is quite a bit more expensive than the Z06 Vette, but the poor economy has caused some big discounts to be had on the Viper and SRT-10 Ram.

I would take the Viper over the Corvette simply because of the cool factor of owning a viper...corvettes are everywhere, and because of the massive amount of torque the viper makes. If you can find a car with more torque you let me know. (The vette has 470 lb-ft....the viper has 535) :D The Viper also stops much faster than the vette, speed is nothing without control.

Edit: Just to make my point even more clear: The Porsche Carerra GT has 435 lb-ft of torque.

Talking about price - my local Chevy dealer has a Z06 on the showroom and has the price marked up to $102,000. The car sticker says $70,00 (i think) and then he adds some garbage line about local market price being $30,000 above the MSRP. Load of bull-
