Many people have brought this up lately, so I figured we could put down what everyone thinks a truck needs to become truck of the month material.

-suspension
-wheels
-CREATIVITY
-performance

These are just a few, so what do you guys look for when voting??

Originality.
I don't care if it's gone up or down or stock hight.
It doesn't have to be perfect, not a show truck, but someones ride.
I would never, ever vote for a credit card custom. If the owner hasn't put some of themselves into it I won't vote for it.
Bottom line has to be "Do I like it"
Last two trucks I voted for were "75 Power Wagon" and then "Daksport1pa". This month I have voted for "4404spd" so not stuck on any model or generation.

I look for any evidence that the owner is as passionate about their Dodge as I am about mine. Does this mean they had to spend a fortune on it? Not necessarily.

There are some vehicles that are no-brainers for being nominated..... vintage Mopar muscle cars in A1 condition, for example. But most of our winner's our not wealthy car collectors, they are people like you and me who have put a lot of themself into a car or truck. That's the way it should be. :)

I think it's rediculous that you haven't already won it. Here's some things I will consider when I make my TOTM votes...

-suspension
-wheels
-performance
-attention to detail
-knowledge of our trucks
-homebrew mods, especially if they include using a sawzall on a truck that is still under warranty!
-dedication to the project and how much of a part of the project owner's life the truck is. Sounds gay ,but you can tell when a dude's truck is his top priority and that he goes to work so he can mod his project and talk trucks with his buddies over a cold beer.

Other than that I can't really think of much besides if you just straight up have a bada$$ ride that drops my jaw and makes me jealous. :rck:

I'm not complaining about not winning...I know I am far from having the nicest ride on the site.

I look for appearance and performance. If its a street truck, then does it look good and is it also performance based. If it is and off road truck, does it look good and does he actually take it off road and use it. These are a few questions I ask myself before voting.

i definately agree with freelantz, i look for something that just stands out from the crowd, i've got probably 8-10 rides saved on my computer, and i'll be voting for them.

I'm sorry, I could have worded that better. I meant that as a compliment and was serious that I think you should be in the voting for December. I know that you were simply asking a question not looking for votes or nominations. Sorry for the confusion.

I agree alot with what Daytona #5802 said, well actually he has pretty much everything i would vote for. LOL

-Overall look of the ride
-Exterior mods
-Rims/Suspension
-Something unique that no one else has
-Custom mods
-Performance
-the "jaw dropping" effect!! :rck:

addition: something that no one else has. thats my inspiration for every single mod. to be unique and make it my own.

Pride in the ride is the most important thing, I think.I agree! I have put a lot into my truck since I won TOTM in Feb. 04! It's my pride and joy and when I think I'm done modding something else pops up!

-homebrew mods, especially if they include using a sawzall on a truck that is still under warranty!
I love the looks on guys faces, trembling knees(what I see most when under their trucks),piles of fingernail tips on the floor, when I am making my first cut of a c-notch or sliding the hunk of metal out of their frame across the ground on a 1,500-4,000 mile truck!!!!!:D

i like pretty much what everyone is saying here. Its a given you wont like EVERYTHING someone has done.

I think the topper for me would be originality and not being LOUD about you trying to get votes. It drives me CRAZY when i see "vote for blah blah" I mean its cool to have it in your sig. but dont just blatantly post it over AND OVER.

It's been said many ways already, but I'd be looking for someone that I recognize... No, not a popularity contest by any means, but rather someone that you see always asking questions or talking about their latest mod, or posting new pics of their ride. Someone with.... well.... passion.

I could care less if you spend $100,000 on upgrades or use spray paint and Home Depot parts. As long as it looks nice and YOU seem to really like what you've done and show that you're proud of it.

And also.... bottom line... I have to look at it and at least RESPECT the ride. I don't necessarily have to LIKE it, but I have to respect it. For example, and forgive me in advance dude.... Viper24. He has an absolutely awesome truck. You know by reading the 1000+ posts of his that he's poured not only an astounding amount of money, but also sweat, tears and likely a few drops of blood into that truck. Do I like everything he's done? Nope. I don't care for lowering, personally. And I don't even understand how shaved handles work!(How the hell do you get in??? LOL) But I damn sure respect the work he's done and it impresses me. And you can tell he loves his truck! Thus, I'd vote for him in a heartbeat.

Just an example. :)

Sum it all up in 1 word.... Passion. :werd:

Hmmm I've kinda wondered what everyone was looking for too sometimes....I've seen some HAWT trucks win...then other times I ask...WHY? *ponders the thought of creativity* Hmmm lemme go back to my drawing board.

I havent really voted but when i do i will have to agree with what most others have said so far. Dedication and passion. You can just go max out your credit card buying parts and having other people install them. Atleast do some of the work yourself. That says alot.

And since your doing all that, might as well get it blown too. Go big or go home right?

If you have a great looking truck and post pictures of it in other thread categories as applicable be assurred the vast majority know class etc when they see it and in one way or another you will get recognition from the members

Winning TOTM is nice but not really necessary the criteria that has to be achieved for fame and glory ( forget about riches cause there ain't no money involved. Iif there was then you would really see weeping and gnashing of teeth)

IMHO of course

I know this works, but i dont like to do it because I think TOTM material should be a truck that stands out to you immediately...whether you see it in a someones avatar or in a non TOTM related post. I dont think you should have to look through a campaigning add to find that truck...If the truck was that nice, you will probably remember it from the first time you saw it. But that is just how I am...I dont even look in the campaign post because I remeber most of the nicer trucks on this site since the day I first saw them...That is my idea of TOTM material.

I think every truck in the TOTM club, should be above and beyond the rest. Stock body kits and SRT-10 hoods don't fit the bill in my book, but thats my opinion. They're nice and I understand the appeal they hold but I just don't think they hold up to the higher standard the TOTM should be held to.

Just my opinion, no offense is meant to anyone.

I to think your on the wrong track.
TOTM does not mean a custom/show truck. Most of which have no place in real world use.
TOTM is for a truck that represents to the majority what they see as an interesting, idea provoking, cared for truck.
OK it might be lowered or raised but once we get into the realms of "Gull Wing" doors they bear little relevance to any functionality.
A perfect example is are current leader in TOTM. It's a working truck, kept clean and with some thoughtful and useful modifications. A very worthy winner if it keeps on it's current course.

Well I just looked at all the past winners

And what struck me( and here I know I will get dumped on) is the lack of oustanding pictures

I am NOT talking about the trucks themselves

The sharpness--clarity-format --background --lighting -etc etc could really stand improvement in a lot of the cases

I don't know how some of the trucks could have won and judged fairly based on the picture quality

Exactly! I have said this before in another thread - Is it really that big of a deal. In 10 years are you going to look back at your life and think being TOTM or COTM was that important - I think not - It's just an added bonus for being part of the best Dodge forum out there :rck: :dtrocks:

I agree, I'm just saying lets get away from cookie cutter mods. Some of wich, I admit, I have done to my truck. In fact every mod I have isn't original, I could point to many other trucks with the same mods, I just want to keep seeing trucks that inspire me, not something I can buy from the dealership or a truck every Joe has.

I also agree that the current leader for TOTM is a great truck, thoughtfull, usefull mods for the trucks purpose. A perfect example of TOTM.

I'm not saying car show trucks, although car show girls with the trucks wouldn't hurt...

4404spd -

I think your truck is worthy without a doubt, as well as every other TOTM winner, although SOME of the mods I would have done differently but thats a personal preference. I look at the TOTM threads to draw inspiration but If we start seeing the same truck in different colors, it could get kinda stale...

I wasn't pointing fingers or trying to offend, just trying to add a constructive point to this topic. It's just my opinion.
