Hey everyone, if you had to choose between a set of racing seats or an underbody neon kit which would you choose? I am on a limited budget but i want my car to have some cool factor to it too besides just the goodies under the hood, but I dont want it to look ricey. My car WILL NOT have a fart can or a wing higher than the roof, like some cars. I do have rims for it, but they arent huge 17" 10 spokes, theyre tastfull 15's.
I'm kinda leaning toward racing seats cuz they would have a practical purpose as well (more supportive) and i wouldnt have to mess with wiring a neon kit. Let me know your opinions.

It depends on what you like. I can get LED light kits that are easy as hell to install.
Only three wires to hook up. The rest plug in to a circuit, looks like stock electrical hook ups.And they are only 150 bucks. The LED's ar brighter than the Neon light kits.
Id rather have the seats myself becouse they are more practical and usefull.
Id rather go fast than look pretty with my under car lights. I do plan on putting some LED lights inside the car hooked up to my stereo, to blink with the bass. I think it would keep the kids entertained. LOL.....GOOD LUCK!

For me, it'd depend on the seats... if they're like the seats in the SRT-4, then no... because I couldn't get comfy in them. If you're getting in it and making the seats work, then they're good. But for just cruising around... not for me.

I was looking at APC Formula 1 racing seats. does anyone know if these are a good choice? or if they'll fit in a neon? what kind of modifications will i need to do to the seat bracket? They require a 15.75" wide bolt hole. Also is the factory seat buckle attached to the seat, floor, or seat bracket? I dont really want to HAVE to buy racing harnesses, even though i may consider it in the future. Thanks for the advice.

I'd stay away from APC, as their products aren't that high quality. A nice seat of Sparcos or Recaros would work great. I'd also consider getting harnesses, as IMHO they work better than seatbelts anyway. I'd get a LED underbody setup instead of the traditional neon setup. Underbodies don't automatically make your car rice, its all in how it's done. If your tubes show, yeah, that's rice. But if you get a nice kit and do a clean install, you'll get props on it. I've got LED's on my SRT-4, and get nothing but compliments about it. Don't worry too much about the approval of other people. If you like it, do it.

are the apc seats gonna be equal in quality to the factory ones or worse? I know sparco's are really nice but i dont have that kind of money. if apc's are similar in quality to factory fabric then thats good enough for me... are they?
As for the neon kits... yeah i would get a LED kit. Probably a 7 color kit off ebay. some of that stuff is actually really quite decent and i hear some of the neon (LED) kits are even name brand. i figure black car, 7 colors under it, i'll never get bored and everything will match. I just dont know where i would install them under the car so they arent showing yet kick enough light and arent going to get shattered by rocks. Do neons even have a good spot to mount neons (LED's)?
Personnally... i would rather have neons... but i dont know how to install them and my drivers seat is starting to go bad, so new seats would be a plus. Actually i'd really like to swap seat backs, passenger and drivers, (see the "front seat help" thread) and then get a neon kit instead of seats.... But i havent figured out if i can take the stock seats apart to swap them.

I would say the seats even though I had a pair of APC racing Seats in my Neon (due to I actually race it) and I could not stand them other than the minute at a time I was on the track, I put my stock seats back in. But Neon is getting played out AGAIN in my opinion

I like my R/T seats because they are leather, but you don't get the hold like racing seats. If they made the SRT-4 racing seats in leather, that would be nuts, I'd have to have them. That I would go for, but I don't think they offer them. I could be wrong. But I would go racing seats. You are held more firm. When you are held more firm, you have more control of the vehicle. That goes for any car. More control = more power. Reason I say this is because you can have the fastest car on the line, but if you can't control it at high speeds because of swaying around in the seat on turns, you will loose power. Not the cars fault in power, but your own in control of the car. Trust me I know. I think my seats are SE and SXT seats just covered in leather. I have drove the SRT-4, and those seats grab you. You're not going anywhere. I myself feel in my R/T that my body sways on turns upwards of 100 MPH. This I hate. I find myself pushing my weight to the other side while gassing on the turns, which really does suck. Sometimes I get scared because of it, and think I am going to go flying into the medium, which I know I am not because of the suspension and wheel base. Probably the only reason I do it. With racing seats, you will avoid that feeling. DO IT, GET THE FIRM FEELING. YOU WILL ENJOY IT.

Wow, i forgot all about this thread.

TunerNeon, if u dont mind me asking, what is your weight/height? I know a lot of larger built guys do not like racing seats (or the stock seats for that matter) because they are uncomfortable, as in too small/stiff. Personally, I cannot stand seats that are soft and cushy (think Caprice, Crown Vic, etc..), I love seats that hug the driver and dont let go. I even consider the stock neon seats TOO SOFT. What i'm trying to say is, comfort is secondary, i dont care if the seat is a little hard, as long as it is supportive, and places the driver in a decent position ergonomically speaking. By the way, I'm 5'7", and only 120lbs, so what feels too hard/stiff for most people is probably right up my alley. I'm starting to grow sick of bracing myself with one hand and steering around a fast corner with the other... and i really like fast corners :D
If anyone else has anymore imput on the APC seats (or another closely priced racing seat, i'm on a budget) please let me know. Thanks.

If it reclines and weighs more than 20 pounds or so, it isn't really a racing seat. Just my opinion of course.
I stopped seeing underbody neons/led's as "rice" when I first saw the acronym "Racing Inspired Cosmetic Enhancement". Underbody stuff is just for show and doesn't pretend to be anything else. 18" 35 pound wheels are rice if the owner truly believes they improve handling. But if they're just for show, I'm fine with that. Any rear wing on a fwd car is rice the same way, although plenty of the show guys know it's just for show. Racing-inspired seats that weigh 45 pounds (includes SRT-4 seats) are rice if used for racing (unless class rules don't allow a real racing seat). But if you're just doing it for the look, no biggie.
If it was me, I'd go with the seats, but I'd save up the money and go with really nice ones, like Recaros.
Best of luck!

Ok, Ok Radar, its not really a "Racing Seat"... but what I'm looking for is something that is bearable for daily commutes while keeping my keester behind the wheel. I'm also on a tight budget. Recaros are wonderful, but I cannot spend $500 on a seat. What I'm lookin for is something with similar comfort to the stock seats (a little less will not bother me) but much MUCH stiffer and more supportive. I have grown tired of bracing myself against the door while taking a corner fast. Whats the point of modifying a suspension if you dont stay behind the wheel cornering with the stock setup? I'd appreciate any suggestions you may have, but I cannot spend more than around $200 per seat, give or take. I'm also considering just buying one, (saving more money :D ) the passenger doesnt need a sport seat... they have the "ohhhhhh SH!!!!" handle, LOL Thanks for the advice.

The stock SRT-4 (aka Viper) seat should do fine then, and the SRT-4 guys are unloading them all the time. You can also hit up www.car-parts.com and see what's in the salvage yards. I just looked, and there are some as low as $225 each plus shipping. From what I remember, they are a bolt-in for 1st gens.

ouch... $225 each + shipping is getting up to the top end of my budget... Thanks for the advice though, i'll look into it. I'm guessing you're saying i probably wont be satisfied with the APC seats?

ok yea srt-4 fr4ont and rear seats bolt into a neon they are nice and pretty good quality i would go with that for sure for seats. if u dont like $225 if theres a nice sized salavge yard near u try there. i plan on srt-4 seats cause there not real skinny and uncomfortable ( i only wieght 125 pnds and am about 5' 9" but my bro rides in my car too and hes 350+ and 5' 11") there also black leather/pleather so they look hella nice too. the stock 1st gen seat belt are attached to the car. ive had my seats out plenty of times and they're easy to get out just 4 bolts on each of the front and 2 on there rear! as for UNDERGLOW kits, i think they look nice if u car is real low.. i haave a full body kit and lowered car and i dont have em but that just cause i wanna get my car painted first. if u can see the bulbs then under glow is lame... also if u have a body kit underglow is nice cause cant see bulbs.. if u can afford $150 in underglow i would recomend getting custom plexiglass things made to cover em up so rocks and wat not dont break em. plexi glass works best cause doesnt effect the bulb if nething makes it shine a lil more even! i have a rice wing and it dont stick above my car but even i talk shit on ppl with underglow where u can see the bulbs or if there car is stock hieght cause then the bulbs just dont shine on ground very good!
