I hit the button on the key fob and it beeps then opens about an inch and dings 3 times...doesn't open unless you do it manually. 2001 EX...

maybe its not a power liftgate but if you know for a fact it is a power liftgate you should have the dealer or somebody check it out..has it ever worked?..on my 2002 GC when the liftgate button is pressed it just unlocks and opens about an inch with a beep i know i dont have a power liftgate.

There's a TSB for this problem--TSB 23-035-00 Rev. B-- assuming that the liftgate will close automatically.
The problem is that the rubber bumpers that the liftgate presses against need to provide sufficient "pop off" for the door to continue opening. The dealer is instructed to either adjust the latch mechanism to tighten the door against the bumpers or add shims under the bumpers so they put more pressure on the door. The method of repair depends on whether the door alignment is within certain specs. (i.e. you don't want the door surface to be too much below or above the body surface when closed)
