I have a 360 engine 89 yr I believe has the original gaskets and I the rear intake gasket have the rear cooling ports blocked off except for a small hole. The original gasket is metal, the rebuild gasket set has a set of metal and permatorque gaskets that have all the cooling ports open. Am I OK to use the metal or the permatorque gaskets even though the ports are all open. The tech guys at Fel pro are no help! It is a heavy duty 1 ton engine, maybe the metal intake gaskets are the best to use?
Thanks

It won't matter if the gaskets are blocked off at the cooling passages at the rear of the heads or not as the intake has no passage that corresponds with these openings, so you will get no flow regardless of the gasket you decide to use.

I would always use Mopar gaskets myself , but my advice would be to match up whichever gasket fits the best or compares closest to the gaskets you removed.

Hope this helps and welcome to the board:)

Thanks for the welcome and reply.

The vehicle is a 1 ton B350 Van. I looked at the intake manifold water passages and they do flow thru the intake on the front and back.
The intake manifold is the heaviest cast iron intake I have ever seen, or should I say lifted! It has a lot of metal in it, I would say it weighs about 10-15 lbs heavier than any cast iron intake I have ever lifted.
I think it is maybe unique to the heavy duty 360?

The engine I believe has the original gaskets, the intake ones are metal, so I will use the metal Fel pro ones even though the rear cooling ports are all the way open instead of restricted original ones. I have a feeling It will be OK even if they are open. I guess worst case senereo is I need to replace them later with the dealer gasket set.
I assume that the Permatex black sealant go is the best to use on the metal intake gaskets.
I think in hindsight the dealer set of gaskets would be the ones to get. You live and learn I guess.

Thanks for the help

when you get aftermarket gaskets they have updates that OE don't get them as fast, felpro
