:help:
I have a 99 Caravan. BAttery is fully charged. Tried starting aand all I get is one loud click per key turn. Tried tapping starter with hammer as suggested.

Is there a way to "hot-Wire" starter direct from the battery to check it?

How hard is it to change the starter? Is there a reference anywhere online?

Thanks

What size engine do you have. In my 1990, which is in scrap yard now, with a 3.0, it was real easy to change. I haven't had to do my 1995 3.3, nor my 2000 3.0 yet.

Read my reply on the other thread you made. I don't know of an online reference for changing the starter, but it's basically two bolts holding it up, and the wires connected to the solenoid. It's shouldn't be a hard job, but it's made complicated by the tight spaces.

I have read over and over how easy it is to change the starter. I did change this weekend and I can tell you it was a pain in the a.. It's true what lbjones said: two bolts and two wires.

I have a 97 Gran Caravan ES (3.8L V6). The starter is on the driver side all the way at the bottom. It is on top of an engine mount. The space is so tight that getting the two bolts out is a pain. It takes forever. Not only that, putting the new back on is a guessing game (at least it was for me). You can't see anything; your fingers are your eyes. Trying to align the new starter with the top bolt was very, very hard.

Please also know that I don't have any mechanical experience. I am lying down in my garage floor trying to do this, very uncomfortable.

The bottom line is that it can be done. But I would NOT say it is a 30 minutes job like many people have posted. I spent several hours doing it.

I remembered some things:

Before you put the new starter into place, take your bolts and thread them into the starter once. I think this will make them go back in faster once you have the starter in place.

Wear a pair of safety goggles. While you are working in that area stuff is probably going to come down on you.

I did not think it to be a 30 minute job the first time either.
