Yesterday I installed new rotors, brake pads, & bearings on my 77 van. Wanting the parts to last, I consulted my factory service manual so I could do the job right.
The manual stated that the after putting in the bearings, the spindle nut was to be torqued to 360 to 480 inch pounds torque to preload bearings before backing nut off and retightening by hand. I don't have an inch pound torque wrench and was wondering if the inch-pound torque figures (360-480) could be divided by 12 to convert to foot-pound figures (30-40). Anyone know if that would work?
