Guys I need help, I have an 02' Dodge 4x4 2500 ctd, auto, w 129,000 on the wheels. About 10k miles ago (40 days) I started to have a power loss problem, like at 50-60 it could not pull a steep hill in over drive on the interstate... Used to pull 10k ibs at that speed. 65- and up no problem though...? Then in the mornings for the first 12-20 min of running time, 20- 40 mph was top speed regardless of how hard I accelerated. (no smoke, no shakes) Then there was 2 times after getting hot, that it would take 10-12 turns of the engine for it to start... :VHOT: ! I took it to dodge; they said your lower fuel pump is shot, so I forked over the $1032. for them to replace... When they have it opened up they tell me that's not it, looks like your high pressure pump is no good either! And it's gonna cost ya $2600. with labor and taxes!! I say tks but no... Some one please recommend another course of action.... or something.
And yes all maint. has been done...

If the little one went and you drove it that way it probably ruined the Big one too, sorry! Get it fixed!

Yup. If the LP goes bad the truck will still run but it will really strain the VP44 until it breaks down. I don't know of any aftermarket injector pumps out there but you may find a rebuilt unit somewhere. Sorry for your problems and I'd recommend a fuel pressure guage so you know if your LP's going south.

Tks guys,
Can you guys give me any leads to find an easy way to install? And more importantly can you please suggest a good high pressure pump. I think is's ridiculous that mine went out with less than 150k on it. Is there a pump that will last longer/ give me better performance I should be looking at? Thanks for all you help.
Also what gauge clusters do you recommend?

Both of Bama's suggestions are right on the money for the VP's. I have friends with each. Go to www.mntdr.org then to the Dyno page to see the increase in HP from a stock VP to the Industrial injection VP with Haisleys 8x12 injectors.
I'd also recommend getting some sort of fuel pressure guage and an aftermarket pump. The factory lift pumps are terrible.
