Hey there... new to the site.. I have been looking around at all the top brands and have found barely anything for 2.5L performance modifications...everything appears to be for 2g 2.7's or 3.0's ... or the 2.4's .. so I have looked and looked.. only thing I could find was an aftermarket cone air intake.. which was on ebay. I'm looking for new cams, headers, oil cooler, possibly cold air.... The car is 1g .. right off the start being a '95... and has 162 k miles.. Ive done alot of suspension work .. as I know many others with 1g stratus's have.. (ball joints, wheel bearings) Still has the stock engine/ transmission.. and purrs nicely w/ little valve lash on hot days .. transmission is another item Im looking for.. any info as to where I can get one 40k or less miles for cheap would be nice (auto.) and if the 2.5L auto. trans is the same as 2.0's or 2.4's ? :D

If your really looking into spending that muchn moeny you might want to look into the 3.0 engine. It is almos yta direct drop in from mitsu. Some acesories have to be wapped over from the 2.5 but all in all its the same. You will get a gain in performance as well as parts avaliability. Check out stratusphere or cloudcars.org for all your strat modding needs

might just go along with the 3.0.. will have to do some research on price range though.. would want a fairly low mile one if I could find one...and will have to check what is needed for the swap...Also I would like to know if any of the stratus transmissions are interchangable.. if anyone has any info. it'd be great... Thanks for the replies!
Later :rck:

which tranny are you looking for? i mean your looking at the mitsu 2.5 motor which only ever came wiht an auto trans. However if yo usend your car down to ERT in jersey he has developed a chip that he will install wiht a manual tranny for those engines. If you want to go down to the 4 cyl enmgine youll need to do not only the engine swap but the whole wireing harness as well, but then you could do either the 2.0 sohc, the 2.0 dohc or the 2.4 dohc and either a 5spd fro ma neon, a 5spd fro ma strat or an auto.

That is actually a smart option of switching to the 4 cyl engine. It is the best way to have the biggest selection in aftermarket parts since you can get a turbo kit and cams and lots of other options as well as the 5 spd conversion that we have done plenty of times. And don't worry about the smaller engine size, the 2.5 is nothing compared to a slightly built 2.4 with a 5 spd behind it. The 3.0 swap is a great option but where to you go from there that does not cost an arm and a leg. Plus, good luck finding a 5 spd conversion to fit in there that is also cost effective. With the 2.4.....like I said, turbos, cams, 5 spds, stroker kits, all that stuff is available. And it's not a hard swap at all. It all drops right in with a new ECU and wire harness it is something that can be done on your own. You could also sell the V6 car and buy the 4 cyl car and save alot of trouble. It's all about how much power you want to make in the long run. If you go 3.0 with a good torque convertor it will move quite well. I got to ride in one about a month ago and it was impressive, but not near as impressive as the 2.4 turbo with nitrous of course.

Im not exactly sure yet on what plans I have in the long run.. Im very happy with the 2.5 atm.. since it has 162k and runs smooth... only problem is the tranny .. which slips a little bit from time to time.... so basically looking for a low mileage one for a good price. As for the engine... she's running on borrowed time .. the water pump chirps a bit and has leaky seal..the timing belt is a major thing I must replace.. since its most likely never been done.. and those dreadful rear plugs :WHT: .. all the parts are bought and Im just waiting on enough ambition and a nice full day to do the huge task. As far as the rest of the car ... body is in decent shape... the suspension/drivetrain is all practically re-done(ball joints, wheel bearings, tie rod ends, etc. etc.) Spending all that time on those areas makes me wanna keep her for a bit longer.. so... undecided where Im going to go with it...As for now I want to get the transmission in before the winter... will have to see how that project goes.
Thanks :D

Id say take care of that soon, youll kick yourself if anything happens before you get a chance. I have the 2.5 as well, but the owners manual seems to ingnore the timing belt schedule for that engine. It mentions it for the 2.0 and 2.4, but the 2.5 seems to be overlooked in that regard...I have 125k on mine right now. I have no idea if the belt/water pump has ever been changed. I want to do it but school expenses are cleaning me out.
Engine runs absolutely wonderfully, tranny has no problems that I can really detect. I havent pushed the engine to the limits, but I want to put it to the test eventually, hopefully without breaking anything.
