This is a little hard to describe in words but here goes. When the gas tank is full it runs with no problem, pulls the boat and camper with ease also. At 1/2 tank while pulling the boat it starts cutting out and gets worse as the gas goes down until you cant keep it up to speed. If theres no load on it it runs OK til about 1/4 tank then starts cutting. Ive checked the coil, replaced the wires and plugs, and there are no codes. The only thing I can think of is fuel delivery. the fuel pump buzzes fairly loud and seems to pulse louder and softer, and again, the lower the fuel the louder it is. Its almost like the pump is to weak to deliver the fuel. I have no way to check fuel pressure, and have thought about putting an inline pump in due to the cost of a replacement but I dont know the flow rate of the OEM pump.

I don't believe the design of the oem pump is a flow through design, meaning you just can't install an inline and pull fuel past the bad in-tank pump..

The noise is louder when the tank is less full because when full it muffles the noise more

if you drop the tank and replace the fuel pressure regulato\rfilter assembly(yes, its all together).replace and drive on.could replace the fuel pump while you got it down.better safe than sorry ; or what i like to call preventative maintenance. GOOD LUCK; AND LET US KNOW HOW IT PANS OUT.

When I checked the price for the pump, the filter, screen and all that came with it, or so I was told. Hence the 280.00 price.

Some places sell in-tank pumps separately..I usually see them as a module though..probably depends on manufacturer...You really save nothing on the filter

Nope I don't think you can buy the parts seperately.....it's all in one module.
BTW, moving thread to Dodge Vans forum

I had the same problem with my 93 5.2 dodge last summer, it was the fuel pump, its all 1 unit. I got it from the dealer, I think it was about 280-300 bucks.
Mine would act as it was running out of gas at 1/4 tank, soon as I added gas it would run fine again. I was told the pump is overheating with no gas in tank to keep it cool. Common problen with the pick ups I heard. Was not hard to do, ran the tank as low as poss and droped it, swapped in new pump.

Sounds like a bad fuel pump. Drop the tank and flush it out and replace the module. Contact www.tenaflyjeepmoparparts.com and you should be able to get the Mopar pump module for around $200 plus shipping.
P.S. Most of the aftermarket pumps like Autozone sells are junk, that's why they MIGHT be priced lower. :VHOT:

Gosh I don't know about priced lower, but a buddy and me put a new pump module in his '93 Grand Cherokee. It was a Master unit from Advance for around $280...we put it in and no start. We dropped the tank and put in another one...this time it worked.

I hear ya! That's why I said MIGHT. It's really not worth the hassle to buy some things aftermarket as all you do is spend a lifetime replacing the part over and over again. Just like the 4.3 TBI Chevy motors, they won't hardly run at all, unless you install a Delco fuel pump. I always shop around for the best price and quality, sometimes we don't have the time, but that is what I am doing for my 91 Mercury right now. Need to do some maintenance before winter gets here! I order on line for a 30% discount and avoid the nerds behind the counter.
