Called Dodge, asked for a locking gas cap...Houston area back ordered by over 2000 units, was told if we were lucky, they might get some in two or three months...

Anybody know a aftermarket cap that works and who sells it?

Back during the '70's when the gas shortage was going on and prices went up and people started syphoning gas from other people's cars, my dad came up with a "gas thief alarm" on an old '72 Chrysler Newport (a huge land yacht). The gas filler neck was behind the spring loaded tag on the rear bumper. My dad wired a push button switch which was pressed by the spring loaded tag. He put an in-line switch inside the car, which could disable the alarm (in series). Then, he went to the horn relay to complete the circuit. If anyone tried to steal the gas by pulling the tag down to get to the filler neck, the car horn started blasting (at least to scare the person off).

When you went to fill up with gas, you had to make sure to "disable" the alarm by flipping the toggle switch under the dash. As far as I know, we never had any gas stolen from that car, but it sure was funny to see mom's reaction when she forgot to disable the alarm when she went to the store to put gas in!!! :D

I just don't understand why the American automakers can't put a locking door factory on our trucks...I just bought a $40,000 1-ton and on week one my first accessory is a locking fuel cap. (Kragen, Fram RG-508, $14.99)
