ok guys see if anyone can help figure this out, about a month and a half ago I started havin problems with my car. Days when it is hot outside my car will drive just fine then all thje sudden sputters and dies and won't start again until it has cooled down. We already had one shop look at it to say they had no idea, anoughter said it might be electrical and so then I tried changing the coil cuase I have had simular probles fixed by doing that and it still continues to do this. Any ideas, I am going NUTS to figure this out

Did you check your codes? I know my car had similar problems... It would stall when it reached operating temps whenever i shoved in the clutch to coast to a light or turn a corner. It also sputtered at idle and seemed to bog and miss. It turned out to be a bad EGR valve. My car however would start back up again with relitively little grief (but would still run crappy as ever). But you'd think a mechanic would have figured that out.

Come to think of it.. My mothers Pontiac Grand Prix had EXACTLY the same problem you are describing a couple months back. Was your coil bad when you changed it? I'm wondering if your PCM isnt fried... Thats what happened to her car, one of the coil packs went out and she didnt catch it and drove it around like that for a good amount of time. Sooo to make a long story short, most of the voltage that was supposed to go to the plugs couldnt because of the bad coil pack, so instead it shot back through the computer and the rest is pretty much history. I would check your engine codes for the PCM failure code. Check your spark (you should have spark even if your PCM is shot) and make sure you've got fuel getting to the engine (test the bleeder on the fuel rail with the engine running). If you've got fuel and spark, its most definetly computer or sensor related, either of which should pull up a trouble code. (just turn your key on off on off on to check codes, you probably already knew that) Good luck with it anyway.

it's not throwing any codes out and that is what is throwing us off

Hey Tuner.
Sounds like a vapour lock to me.
I used to own a hot modified Lancia Beta Coupe (Sporty Italian job!)
The engine had been worked / modded so hard that the headers couldnt handle the amount of gas being shot out! In the heat / traffic especially when the car heated up it would happen but never happen when cold or moderate temperature.
I just learned to turn the car off while waiting in traffic!
Get your exhaust checked out.

Cheers

I think your intake is also sucking way too hot air into the engine as well. On a hot day and situated above the exhaust manifold!
Look into modding the intake into a full custom cold air intake.
I think that would help you heaps!

well I wondered about that but being injected wouldn't there be enough pressure to keep from vapor locking? I know ever since I put the header on the under hood temps have gone up but I put that on back in May

Your injectors may be clogged a bit!
I think its just way too hot and the exhaust isnt flowing as well as it should.
Get it checked out.
Took me ages to find out why my Lancia did it.
I didnt really care. It had a 2ltr twin cam in it that pumped out 220 hp with dual double barrel weber carbies on it! Genie headers and some hot pistons / cams.
Then I rolled it after a NEW tyre blowout! I don't buy michelins now!!

Good luck!
