Well heres the exciting tale of the blown trans:

I got into the car and started it, nothing seemed amiss. I drove around the block to a streetlight and crossed. Made it about 2 blocks when I slowed down for a stop sign... *BANG CRACK* I thought I hit a curb, but I was only going 10mph and that wouldn't have done that so I stopped the car, and looked under. Thats when I saw the massive amount of blood, I mean trans fluid pouring from my car. Naturally I tried to drive it a few feet forward and to the right to be out from the middle of the street... No such luck, all connection between the engine and the wheels were severed, I had no gears, hell couldnt even park. All that keeps it in place in its new home (dealership parking lot) is the handbrake.

Also there were a few big ass chunks of metal on the ground under the car after it happened.

The idiot in the red shirt with blue hair is me

The streets run red with my cars blood.

how many miles were on your car? I'm just wondering because i'm trying to avoid the problem you had. I've heard a Limited Slip Differential strengthens the transmission A LOT, but the cheapest one is a Phantom Grip Kit (not a true LSD) and it runs $275... roughly the same price as a used trans. I have a new used trans in my car after the original went out so i'm trying to decide if i should buy and LSD or wait til this trans craps and get another. if you could let me know the year of your car and how many miles it has i would really appreciate it. Thanks.

By the way.... did you beat your car? hehe j/k. but seriously, did you drive it hard at all, or drive it nicely? lol. also was it a ATX or MTX? Looks like an Automatic from your pics but I cant really tell. Good luck with the repairs.

its an auto, drove kinda hard, but Ive only owned it for 6k miles. It has 72500 on it, so all of the miles but the 6k arent mine. It has 3 pervious owners so they could of beat the crap out of it as far as I know, I recieved it from a dealership with no prior info (untill I looked on carfax)

ok, thanks for the info. I've decide to just drive my car and wait for the trans to take a dump again. maybe it will maybe it wont. But i figure even a used trans should last me 3-5 years, even if it was driven hard... (I hope) Now that you need a new trans your should pick up a stick so you can have more fun with your car, hehe. Let us know what actually happened to it, cuz thats just plain weird, going out with no prior warnings or anything.

Well I found out from another forum what happens.

When one wheel spins, the fluid moves or something in the trans leaving a low amount for one side and it starts to get really hot heating up the metal, then the metal cools around the diff pin. then eventually its loose enough to shoot into the trans. Not word for word, but the basic explainition

yeah i've heard something along those lines too, but know one seems to know off a solution. (a cheap solution anyway) A limited slip differential cures it i've been told (RADAR told me that), but i was wondering if the "diff saver pin" made by phantom grip would help any. Also anybody know if a better trans lube would help control the trans temp/diff pin problem better? I was considering Royal Purple but dont wanna spend the money if it wont make a difference...

I'm not sure exactly what the diff saver pin from phantom grip is. Mopar does sell a retainer tab that keeps the diff pin from going AWOL. They're for auto trans but can easily be trimmed to fit the manual. After seeing several trannys literally explode from the diff pin contacting the case, I put them in my junkyard tranny before installing it. I don't think this really solves the problem though, the spiders can still seize to the pin and spin the pin causing sufficient nastiness in itself, but the internals are more likely to stay internal. Since I've actually heard of instances where the damage to the transmission housing has been sufficient to break the starter nose cone and seen trannys with enormous holes in them it's worth the few bucks they cost.

Diff pin retainer clips as installed in my junkyard '97 MT:

They need some trimmed off the top to clear the speedo drive on a manual trans, about 1/2". Direct bolt in for neon automatics.

I don't have the part number here now but if someone want's it I'll get it.

There's some more pics of the T-350's insides here: http://photobucket.com/albums/a20/tchase/neon/trans%20swap/

The diff saver pin by Phantom Grip is available from modernperformance or howell automotive, however both sites lack an in depth description of the part. I know what you mean about exploding trannies, though. the transmission previously in my car came out in 7 different peices. I saw the hole in the case. It was about 6X8 inches and left a clear view of the gears.

How difficult is the install of those retainer tabs? and where can i get them?
