ok heres the deal.put a engine from a 88 dodge truck(318) into my van.put new oil pump ,water pump, oilpan gasket, valve cover gaskets, changed the intake, and intake gasket.put in penzoil high milage oil and quart of Lucas oil treatment.after about 2 days noticed heavy oil consummation;blueish smoke from tail pipes.when i say heavy oil consummation I MEAN DRASTIC.1 qt=30 miles.got valve seals to put in.BUT,after i compress the spring i cant get the valve to slide up wards;so i can take the retaining ring out.also in searching the forums some one had mentioned a stuck oil ring. could this be the culprit????i am secretly hoping that its not the rings!!!! doing a compression test today.will post results later. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP !!!!!!

Sounds to me if you are blowing that much you may have a cracked ring..Valve seals can account for some oil consumption, but you usually see that on start up as it leaks past guide and puddles on the piston, when you start it whoof, there's the blue..but if you are puffing like a crop duster...doesn't sound too good...Do both a wet and dry compression test..If you have an air compressor..install a spark plug fitting and pump air into the cylinder you are working on..this will hold the valve up while you remove the spring...be sure you bring that piston to tdc in case the valve drops, it won't fall all the way in..If you don'y have a compressor you can use an appropriately bent rod of sorts to go through the spark plug hole and up to the valve face to hold it

ok when i put the carbortated intake on.i seem to remeber ther bieng some kind of rivited plenum on the bottom of the intake.ther was oil build up around it.the black caked on kind.SO,i my infinite wisdom i cleaned it i also remeber there bieng a space between the plenum and the intake,say3\32,on corners oppisite the rivits(there were only two i think).i saw where on tb models this is a comon problem.could i just take off the intake reclean the plenum area and seal it w\ RTV. seem to me that it could pull a lot of oil out of the valley. ANY THOUGHTS ON THAT??????????????
