Ok just turned over 10000 miles on my new 2005 ctd 2500 quad cab... now I am ready to add more power and I was wondering if anyone out there is using the Quadzilla chip for 60 hp more?? I think the price is $299... so is it worth it? and can you notice the power difference??
thanks

sign up free on dieseltruckresource.com and get it cheaper than that through their online store.......the tow box is 65 hp,,,,,standard box is adj. to 100hp.......you can read over there several posts on those boxes.quad is a member there and is constantly on the board helping people and answering questions on his products......bama

I have the race box on my 4.5 QC auto with 3.73's and normally drive with the box on the 100 HP setting. The mileage increase is phenomenal. Maybe because I have an open 4" exhaust and Proguard intake, I don't know, but I average over 21 MPG all the time, and I don't baby it. I have loved Quad box ever since I got, for the power and the mileage.

Are you getting 21 on the computer or are you figuring it out on paper. I found the computer fudged the numbers after adding my EZ. My mileage went up but not by as much as the computer was saying. I went from 15 in the city to 19.5 in the city on the computer but really only went to about 17.25 when done on paper.

I believe GotDiesel? (Dodgezilla) over here has the quad box on his truck.

Yes I do and my mileage is down .5 mpg on the 60hp setting. It gets worse with the higher settings. Now, If I go by the overhead, my mileage is up to about 26mpg on the 140hp setting!! I sat in stop and go traffic and watched the mileage continue to rise as I sat there not moving!!
Maybe if I just go by the overhead, and never hand calculate the mileage, it will actually be better!!
With my former EZ my mileage dropped 2 mpg but the overhead read an increase of 2 mpg....
Regardless of all this, the EZ worked great and this Quadzilla race box is awesome!! I am used to losing mpg with power add-ons so I'm not that concerned with it...

My mileage is hand calculated, I should have said that. I made a trip up into Canada recently where the speed limits were 90-100 KPH (55-60) MPH and the overhead read 27.2 but it really calculated out to 25.7 MPG. On that trip I was trying see how good of mileage I could get and drove like I had an egg under my foot. This is about four MPG better than I ever got befor I used the Quad race box. My overhead varies from 1.2 to 1.5 MPG to high but its close enough for me. But the fuel gauge doesn't lie. I can drive from my home in southern Missouri to St. Louis and back on a quarter tank of fuel (200 miles). I'd like to see a Hemi do that!

No prob, just turn the truck on, throw it in drive... and then tow it till it just runs out of gas. :)

Set on 2 with the occasional run on 3 I am getting about 80 more miles out of a tank of fuel. When I pulled last weekend I got and extra 70 miles out of the tank so I do get better mileage from the EZ as long as I am not standing on it all the time.

That was my problem... I was never not in it. :)

It doesn't seem to matter with mine. I've gone for a week before without ever putting my foot into it and my mileage never got any better. My mileage is still decent so It doesn't matter that much. 16 city/19-22hwy.. I'm OK with that considering all the crap I've done to the truck...

I was debating between the 65 hp tow module or the 30-100 standard module. I was currious on how the power was made, is it by increasing fuel pressure? If so would this harm my injector, or lift pump? With either modules would you have to worry about EGT's? I have an 05 automatic would I have any worries with tranny slipage? Would this leave any traces that the dealer might find or is the aultering done after the computer? thanks!

Pressure and timing. I think it's pressure only on the lower settings and both on the higher settings. You should at least get a EGT guage to monitor your temps. Any mod like this "May" cause problems in the future but most of us do it anyways. Look at my sig. Do you really think I wanted to buy all those parts? :D

Anything over 65 HP and your tranny is gonna slip a bit. The more over, the more the tranny is gonna slip and that will cause problems down the road. The dealer can do a code check and tell if you have had a programmer on it or not. Depending on your rapour with the dealership they may over look it or they may just cancel your warranty

Are there any programers or boxes that I can use that the dealer cannot find?

There are lots of them... unless it's hard wired in such as the TST, it can either be removed or as with BullyDog, download the stock program back in.

where does evryone keep getting that the tst is hardwired?it simply plugs in line with existing harnesses same as the other boxes made...............bama

Cause everything I'd heard about it said that it was hardwired in.

I heard that there is at least one wire that must be spliced into an existing one and that the dealership knows this and will check that wire to see if it has been tampered with. That's why I didn't buy a TST! Don't tell me that I've been misinformed!!!! :VHOT:
bama, are you running a TST box?
Bubba_Hemi
09-02-2005, 05:05 AM
Exactly... same reason why I didn't get the TST when I was looking for one as well...

Does anyone know of any head to head comparisons on the boxes? If you go by the ads (which I know you can't), all of them are the best. I'd like to get the Edge Juice w/ Attitude, but only have 4000 miles on the truck. A buddy of mine has an '05 GMC Duramax and bought the Hypertech programmer, but I've read that those are a waste of money on our CTD's.
What's best? Quadzilla? Egde? Banks? any others?

fellas,,,i do not have a tst on my new truck.......but you can go to tst website and look at detailed instructions for installing their box.it shows no wire splicing on there.im not a third gen specialist by no means, maybe on their earlier build common rail boxes they spliced something.you could call mark at tst and im sure he would be happy to answer any questions.ive spoken with him before when i ran his powermax comp box on my 02 and he was very helpful and informative........im currently working with quad on a tow box hes setting up for me with the wastegate opening at 36 lbs instead of the 40 plus they come with.it should be here this week, and ill be sure to post on it for you all to see.itll be later in the week though,as my truck is going in the body shop for a few days thanks to the hurricane and one pissed off trampoline that tried to mate with my truck  ........but in my opinion, unless you are truly ready to spend some dough and put up with some broken parts,,you would be better served to stay away from a tst box anyways......................................bama

Well, I think the TST will be safe runnin it stock as long as you hve self control... the reason I liked it was because I could have that as a base to start with. Then as I started building the truck more and making it stronger, I could up the settings and it'd almost be like getting a new box after every mod.

true bubba,,,,,if you plan on upgrading considerably, the tst is the way to go.but if you plan on staying moderate, and keeping reliability, without going into substantial hp gains and upgrades, stay away from the high end boxes.take it from somebody thats been there, once you start making some really good power, things start going south in a hurry if you use the power.id say,,about 80 hp is all you wanna go without getting into tranny mods and fuel supply problems....................bama

Yea, if you just want a lil extra... don't get one of those boxes, stick with something along the lines of the EZ. I got the EZ when I did not only because I thought the TST was a hard wired item, but also because I got the EZ pretty cheap and I knew that later on that could just be stacked on top of.
