OK I found a good deal on a 318 V8, but will my 5 speed manual tranny bolt to it. If I go with a V8 should I just go with the 440? If I go with the the 440 what kind for transmittion should I use? I plan I lifting the pickup and will want a 400hp (if I go with the 440). Any tips will help.

The easiest way to obtain 400hp is with a 440. A 318 may be capable of 400hp but will be a race motor in the end.
As for transmissions it all depends on what transmission you have now??? Failed to mention.

As it stands now your transmission will bolt up to a 318, but not a 440. If you choose a 440 your best be would be to go with a 727 Torqueflite auto., but it has to be for a big-block since six cyl. and small-block won't bolt up to a big-block. The last time a big block engine was used in a Dodge truck was back in the 70's, so I'm not sure if motor mounts from an older truck would work in yours.
I would also recommend swapping in a Dana 60 rear as well if you plan on high horsepower.
