My tranny was just replaced a little under two months ago and all the seals were replaced. (97, dohc, 5spd) Now its leaking fluid where the CV axels connect to the transaxel. Those seals are new!!!!!!!!!!! Any ideas on a cause? the guy that did the work (buddy of mine, decent mechanic actually very talented) was baffled that it was leaking. He thinks its from dumping the clutch hard... only problem is i've only done that 3 times since i got it. would that be enough? it doesnt seem like it to me but i know they dont make stuff like they used too. It still shifts perfect with no hint of tranny damage. any ideas on why its leaking? Is it from abuse or just a freak set of seal? any imput would be appreciated, thanks.

You could try some new seals.I have never had a problem with my axle seals leaking.
I dump the cluth OHH!!!! NOT VERY MUCH but I have on occasion but usually in 2nd gear behind someone slow really slow!! LOL you outta see their faces when I rev to about 6000 grand and pop the clutch in 2nd.Eyes glued to the mirrors they are.
On take off I luanch at less than 4 grand,WAY less. Like 3 grand. Spinning cost ya time I actually spin more from 1st into 2nd unless im just shredding tires, I can however smoke em ASK MY KIDS!! Hope ya get it solved !!!!!!

Seals are cheap enough ($20 a set or so?) and the job takes a good half hour per side. Buy the parts, buy the guy some beer, and try replacing them. They don't tend to leak unless they've been scuffed up.

Out of curiosity, might as if the snap ring was still on the axle and verify that it's actually in all the way...

Best of luck!

How bad is it leaking? Are you certain it's the axle seals?

My '95 leaked at the top of the tranny (I'll be damned if I can't remember the technical name for them right now, but it's where the shift selectors are) which ran down the side of the tranny which looked like axle seals if you were looking at it from the bottom.

If you're not certain, clean everything up really good then keep an eye on it every single day.

I had the exact same problem as EZ2CHERE so so I would also clean everything up and check again,

Keep us posted

Thanks for the advice. i'll clean it up and keep you posted cuz i was looking at it from the bottom. I dont need to tell you guys how hard it is to inspect the tranny from above. that is one tight engine compartment! Its not leaking horrible just a few drops hanging off the trans, no puddles or drips when i let it sit. dodgeneonACR98, wouldnt a clutch dump in second be harder on the trans than first? just curious
