I changed fuel filter as per normal procedure and somehow ended up with air in HP pump and lines. Question is: what is the best and easiest way to bleed air from system?

Turn the key to the on position without cranking the engine. The pump should run for a few seconds. If you dont hear it, bump the key quickly and wait a few seconds. Turn the key to the off position and repeat. Happy motoring... Chris

Thanx but I have already done that and that will refill the filter bowl. My problem is that the bowl must not have completely filled and when i cranked the engine the high pressure pump sucked some air into the high pressure lines. The engine will not start and I dont want to try too many times. I think I need to bleed the air off. I forgot to mention that my engine is the 24 valve '98 model. Need to know the way to bleed the trapped air from the HP lines.

It is helpful to see how much fuel is in the cansister before completyl pulling the old one out and try to add some to bring it back to the same level. Sometimes it may take five to six bumps. changing the fuel filter is a pain.

Good luck!

bump starter over with out cranking, lift should run fer 20 seconds.if that didnt work, you can back retaining nuts(19mm i believe)off the injector line hold downs and bump it over till fuel comes out,and retighten..............bama

What bama said, that's the only way that we can bleed the lines on most of the Diesels I work on. It's a pain in the rear, but it works, I believe that 11/16th is what I use on all my gear, you can crack the lines at either the injector, or the pump, both will work. If you choose to crack the lines at the injectors make sure you start at the line that travels the furthest from the pumpand move closer from there.
