I have a 2004 Hemi Durango with the towing package.
My Durango acts like front wheel drive, and not limited slip either.
I start off and accelerate, the right front wheel occasionally goes up in smoke, and my Durango just sits there. I get no push from the rear wheels at all. I have had electrical, trans, and engine problems, bad mirrors and even the stereo was bad and had to be replaced twice. Aside from the stereo nothing has been fixed correctly and my year is up.
I have owned nothing but Dodges for over 20 years, but this turd may be my last. :help:

In highly technical terms I will try and explain your situation:
Something broke in it.

You know I said the same thing to the dealership less than a month after I bought it, and four or five times since then...
According to Bryden Motors in Beloit Wisconsin there is nothing wrong with my Durango. "AWD Durango's are primarily front wheel drive." That is a direct quote.
Anyone else care to agree with me that there is something wrong with my Durango please add to this string, maybe Daimler will finally make an attempt to fix it.

Thats garbage - AWD vehicles use about 60% of the power at the rear axle, 40% at the front axle. There is a problem with your particular vehicle. Make sure you aren't in 4x4 since that would really screw up the transaxle on dry pavement.

That's crazy. If I nut my D around a corner it just launches. No wheel spin at all with AWD unless it's in dirt. Even then it's minimal, maybe a 1/4 turn if that. Tell the dealer to back off the meth and look at the problem...or take it to another dealer if you have one around.

Had my D for nearly two years now, never had a wheel spin on any surface other than mud and ice. If you are lighting up a wheel on pavement, you either have WAY more power than anyone else, or there is some serious issues. ;o) Keep taking it in until they fix it.

I have HEMI, AWD and 3:92 ratio. No TC. I can get my rear tire to spin from a stop if I am making a turn. It will not do it under normal conditions and I have to purposely make it do it. There does not seem to be anything wrong with my truck.

Alright everybody! Another issue I've had since new is lifter noise. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm taking this turd in tomorrow to a different dealership for the AWD.

Welcome to the club. I have seen this in many post. Told it was normal. Have not heard of a fix. Thought I would get a Cummins badge for the D

Here's the update on the AWD
I normally don't trash the D but did today to make sure that it would act up. Took a TEC(goof) for a drive ,did a U turn on the highway and punched it...
Talk about an impressive smoke show! Smoke pouring out of the front wheel well.Next I took it back towards to the dealership and punched it going right ..nothing, just slow lethargic acceleration.
The Tec say's " Do you normally drive it like this?" I say "If I have to merge I'll sometimes mash on it, but it spins in city when I don't mash it, or on wet pavement too. I don't thrash it like this, I'm doing this to prove a point."
The tec says to me " I'm not sure it was the front wheel, and if you drive like that no wonder it spins!" and gets huffy.
What the F$%^ does this guy think people buy a Hemi with AWD for?
Acceleration without wheel spin...He probably drives a auto neon four door with 500 lbs of sand in the trunk.

God that pisses me off.
You need to take that moron on a drive with a new one from their lot and show them that the other one does not do it. What an asshat.

Its interesting to me because when i floor my 4.7 liter awd on gravel or the such only the left front tire lights up(no traction control). Every time i try it it does the same thing and I thought that most of the power was sent to the rear so i was expecting the rear tires to spin not the front left when i put it in four lock on gravel there is no problem at all. Just thought i would throw that in here.

What AWD Update
Well some good news, my dealer looked at the Durango again. I told the service manager of your posts. We took my Durango and another new Durango for a drive and the difference was obvious. My D acts like front wheel drive, the other spins all four(when it spins). Everyone up to the Dealership General Manager checked it out, and I was there when he called Chrysler to request help. He told them that there is something seriously wrong, it goes up in smoke from the front wheels at the drop of a
hat, and he wanted a solution found. Now I'm in wait mode while Chrysler finds a fix.
That was last Friday, I'll call'em on Tuesday for an update.

I have a 1 gen. with full time Xfer case (AWD). I have most of my fun in the winter months, and the rears have always spun first! Perhaps I should stay away from the 2 gens!
