why me?

i just got my MP elec ignition and installed it. after driving for 2 minutes the distributor started clack claking.. this is teh third distributor i have had that threw a weight. could something be causing this besides dumb luck? I pulled the reluctor off, and thr roll pin was not lined up into the groove on the shaft. I am assuming it is supposed to be. does anyone know if this could have caused the problem and if when reassembling I should line the reluctor up with the groove in the shaft?

thanks again!

okay i ahve more details. the weight is not "thrown", one of the weights is lose and when you shake the distributor you can hear it rattle. I am not sure if this is the clacking though. the weights have different springs, and i remember that being normal. I feel like the weight shouldn't move unless force is applied.... when running you can feel the clacking at the vacuum advance, and when vacuum is applied the clacking goes away, sometimes. i hope this info helps.

thanks, Josh

I GOT RID OF THE CLACK! after taking the distributor apart again... i noticed some marks on the top of the posts that hold te springs for the mech. advance. looked at the under side of the plate, and the triangle shaped piece that hold the pickup to the plate was also scuffed up.. the posts where whacking the bracket. I ground down the posts a little and took off a hair from the bottom of the dist. shaft. no more clack! we have the timing down pretty good too, it is getting there.
