Hello,
Here is a question we hope you can help with.

94 Dodge Van B250 seems to have a problem starting, taking 2 to 3 tries with turning it over.

Also, after a trip of about 100 miles on freeway, van started jerking when accelerating. It is very hesitant to "get up and go" and will do this unless you baby the gas pedal.

Is it the fuel filter/pump going bad, or other suggestions?

Auto parts stores swear that fuel filter is on passenger side of van but cannot find it. Another post seen here states it is in the gas tank with fuel pump.

Please help :)
Thank You

Vans built after July 1993 had the fuel filter as part of the fuel pump in the tank.

It's certainly possible that the pump is getting weak or the in-tank filter is clogged.

Well in '92 the Magnum engine debuted with the 5.2L/318, but the Magnum 5.9L/360 did not debut until 1993. The 360 in your B350 is still old LA style engine.

the funny thing is....most of the parts house books and even dealer lists are wrong in these areas.....see what happens when some 19 year old gets the job entering information in the archives ???.......hehehe

Did the fuel pump replacement correct this problem for you?

I just obtained a B250 conversion that had been parked for 2 years. Due to the occassional stutter, we gave it a tune up, and found 2 faulty spark plugs. The stutter went away. Then, the hesitation appeared two weeks later. It only hesitates after running for about 10 miles, occasionally on the highway, mostly at stops and starts. I have "assumed" that when the fuel pump heats up, it hesitates.

Any ideas?

one thing you can consider is the fuel injectors....i have a 92 250 with tpi injection and have had intermittant missing .."would miss steady for a mile or two then stop and start again...causing vibration"..all the ignition parts are new...checked fuel pressure..all good...started wiggling the fuel injector plugs and was able to reproduce the miss "dead cylinder".. went to local junk yard and found plenty of plugs...even ones that were better than the model on mine....spliced it in and it runs like new..

a 92 b250 w/ tpi??? r u sure it's not tbi....Pull those two faulty plugs that temporarily corrected the problem when changed....tell me how they look now...

I am unfamiliar with the injection system on this series of Dodge Van. Guilty, I haven't even messed with EFI. Last time I messed with ignition, other than starters, etc., I still had a carb.

One person told me I actually have a carb, but it is "electronic". Anyone know about the '94 B250's with 3.9? Mind you, I have only "gone in" once, and that was to do the tune-up. I have only had the van for 2 weeks.

i think it is tpi because i have 8 fuel injectors one for each cylinder..and a throttle body...holly....the plug plugs into the fuel injector,it is about a half inch by three quarter inch plug with two wires

I have the 5.9 in mine....didn't see your motor type...5.9 didn't go magnum until 1993..there's the mix up....

A hesitation can be caused by a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) going bad. The TPS tells the computer (ECM) how far the throttle is open and thus the ECM adjusts timing and fuel delivery accordingly.

The Magnum engines (1992-2003 5.2L & 3.9L, 1993-2003 5.9L) use MPFI (Multi-Port Fuel Injection)

Prior engines used TBI (Thottle Body Injection) which kind of looked like a carburetor, but had two injectors on top.

Will the TPS trigger the "check engine" light? It hasn't come on at all.

Also, does anyone know where to hook up the computer to read errors? I went by Autozone to hook it up and they only know how to hook up Fords. We couldn't find a hookup ('94 Dodge B250 conversion 3.9L)

Not always.

The hook-up for the computer is under the hood by the computer itself. It's a square connector.
