Hi, I own a 1992 van 150 with a 318 and a 3 speed automatic transmission. My problem is it won't up shift to a higher gear ? I have reverse and when I put it in drive it will go but just won't shift up. It was working fine when I went to the store and on the way home it started to do this. I checked the fluid and it's OK not burnt and it's up to the mark on the dip stick. NEED some :help: on this. Thanks, Zimmie.

It's possible that the T.V. (Thottle Valve or Kickdown) cable either broke or became disconnected from the transmission. You'll need to look underneath where the cable connects to the transmission and take your engine cover off and check where the cable connects to the throttle body.

Thanks for the help. It wasn't the T.V. (Throttle Valve or Kickdown ) cable. that sounded to good, do you have any other ideas ? Do you think it may be the torque converter ? I'm at a loss. Thanks again, Zimmie.

I don't think it's the converter.
Are you checking the fluid level while in Park or Neutral? It has to be in Neutral.

thanks, I was checking it in Park. I checked it in "N" and now I think i have to much fluid in it. I took it Down the road, still the same. Won't shift out of LOW ? All I have is LOW & REVERSE.... :VHOT: ....Zimmie

Okay....one last thing to check. Have a friend/helper move the gearshift through all it's positions while you observe the movement of the gear selector shaft on the transmission. You'll need to get under the van to do this and be sure the helper has their foot on the brake and the wheels are chocked.
If everything checks out there, I'm afraid you may need to take it to a transmission shop and have them run a diagnostic.

I want to thank you for all the help. A friend of mine said it was probably a bad transmission, we checked all the linkage, it all seemed to be working OK. I found a complete trans. with the torque converter for $200.00. So I guess I'll be doing that this weekend. I'll let you know how I make out ? Thanks again and best regards, Zimmie.

Make sure you change the fluid and filter in that used transmission. And DO NOT use Dexron/Mercon fluid...only Chrysler ATF+3 which you can get at your parts store.

Will do, I'll let you know how it turns out? Thanks, Zimmie
