So how's this sound for my '72? Dynamat insulation on firewall, floor, back of the cab, pobabaly on the roof, too, cause i'm putting in a sunroof & a headliner. Brand new carpet from firewall to back wall(it's a regular cab), spray-in Dynamat for the doors.(dynamat is sound & heat insulation.) Complete Alpine stereo system(head unit, speakers, subs, amps, crossovers). Possibly a DVD player. Tint windows to 28%. Sliding rear glass( i can get 1 from a local junk yard for 20$).Leather shifter boot. Black & gray two-tone through-out. AutoMeter gauges in an aluminum gauge panel. Already has 79 dash in it. Cover Adventurer door panels in fabric, w/ original Adventurer Sport emlems. What do y'all think? Is it crazy or cool? If you have any sugeestions or comments, feel free to voice them, whether good or bad.

Did you swap in the dash yourself? If so was it difficult to do? I am now lookin at the idea of using the box, Doors and fenders from an 80's model ram to give my 73 a sort of widebody look. I am gonna keep the interior door panels from the new doors and hope they look good with the older style dash. I am probably gonna install Bucket seats and a Pistol grip shifter and make the interior black with red accenting just like the paint job on the exterior.

yeah, i switched dash pads myself. the glovebox part is easy, it just bolts on. the gauge part of it is harder though. you have to take the instrument cluster out to get to the nuts holding it on there. you to be very careful because it uses metal nuts on plastic studs, and a lot of times the get stuck and break off. they also don't like to go back on very good. some of them you have to lay on the floor to get to. no joke dude, it's a pain. but it looks good. i have gauges installed in the ears of the gauge cover, on each side of the gauges & radio, tach on the right side & an oil press. gauge on the left. i thought about the 81- up body parts too, cause i think the 72 grille will still fit( i like the original grille better than the newer ones), either that or Bushwhacker fender flares. the fenders, doors, & box all fit. i have bucket seats in mine, and it looks good. i used ramcharger seat pedestals & 90 lebaron seats.

the only difference between the 73 dash and a 79 dash is just the dashpad? Ok if that is the case looks like i have some more parts to add to my shoppin list when i go to the junkyard lol. As for the 72 grill fitting with the newer body parts the answer is yes. these trucks had the same bolting locations from 72 to 93. So if you wanted the looks of a 93 and did not want to sell your older 70's model truck you could easily switch all the body panels except you would have to change the rad support to be able to use the headlights and signal lights from the 93. but the fenders, box and doors will all bolt up. I have already seen a 79 on ebay that had those parts that were from a 87 and they retained the stock grill.

yup, that's the only difference. the only time the metal was diferent was if the truck had a/c. a/c dashes had panel vents, as wel as defrost and floor, whereas non-a/c just had defrost and floor.

Kinda landlocked at the moment due to my yard being a major mud pit and i have most of the front clip off to change the fenders just have to remove the passenger fender and then go to the junkyard to pick up the new ones for $25-30 a piece. I have already scoped out a couple decent pick ups with good front fenders one is an 84 and the other is a 75 Long Box stepside. I am trying to decide if i should try to get the box as well and just use 84 style fenders and doors. It shouldnt be to hard to make the fenders on the box match the body lines some how besides it would be easier to widen the stepside fenders then it would be to install wheel tubs in my box (i am keepin the stock box to work on if i get fenders from a 72-78 D100)

the 81-93 boxes look really good on the older trucks, even w/o using the fenders. the lines match up really well. and i think it would actually be easier to put mini-tubs in a sweptline bed than widening stepside fenders. you really only need mini-tubs, cause there's plenty of room in the fender wells to run big tires. i'm running 295/50/15's right now, with no problems with rubbing. any wider and you'll need a mini-tub. i'll probably do mine that way, cause i'm wanting to go to 18's with 305 or 315's.

Ok just to double check and confirm it is just a dash pad swap to get my 73 dash to that style? As said i know of some parts that are gonna get added to my shopping list lol. I have posted the concept pic in the concept/modified forum for all to see.

you'll need an instrument cluster too, i forgot that. but yeah, just the dash pads & instrument cluster and voila, 79 dash. hey, make the oil gauge on the cluster is the same. if you have a gauge, get one w/ a gauge, if you have a light, get one w/ a light.

yeah, it's pretty sucky. like drivin' a tractor trailer or something. i'm gonna get a smaller one too, when i get some extra cash. either that or swap in a whole 4-speed column out of a 81-up. i still got the 3-on-the-tree column in it, w/ the shift lever took out.
