Hi this is my first post. I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with a transmission problem I've got with my Dodge Ram van 1986 5.9l. When driving above 60mph the van starts to vibrate and shudder. I've tried renewing the rear transmission mount, but no luck there. I noticed when the van was on ramps that when the van was running, the end of the transmission where the driveshaft joins was vibrating quite severely. If anyone has any ideas of what might help this situation, please reply. Thanks.

There's a few possiblities. First the universal joints are bad and need replaced, two, the driveshaft is bent and you need to have a new one made (or find one in a junk yard), or three, the transmission output shaft bearings are shot causing the driveshaft to move up and down.

If the trans. shop has to remove the transmission and open it up, it can get expensive.

does the end shaft when removed give access to the bearings, maybe the trans shop could do it from that end ,dont know how good the trans shops in the uk are with us 727s

They may be able to remove the tailshaft without removing the whole transmission. Are there any Chrysler dealerships around you? That might be your best bet.

I think that is a bushing in the rear of the tailshaft housing. They can can replaced by removing the driveshaft only. There is a seal to the rear of the bushing that will have to replaced also. I never had one so bad it damaged the tranny but I guess it could if let go long enough. :gr_patrio
