I'm new to dodge vans, but I've just been learning about this issue. I know that an A518 overdrive tranny from 89 - 95 is considered quite stout and has simple wiring requirements. Doesn't the 46-RE need a lot of computer connections? There's a write-up on it at ( transmissioncenter.net/alto_3.htm ) I think your van was even offered with that tranny as an option in 1994 so the swap should be a piece of cake. And it was available with a lock-up converter too! -- Matt

I concure with the other reply to your post!! Best to find a 94 van with a 518 trans in it so you can get the trans and figure a rebuild maybe and also get the trans cross member and the drive shaft as it is a bit shorter for a 518 trans than a 727. I'm pretty sure you'll need a 46RH trans and also check the type of speedometer drive .While the 518/46RH trans are built upon a 727 you need to use Dodge type 4 trans fluid because other fluid like dextron 4 will wear out clutches fast!!

I second that. A 46RE won't work...you'll need the 46RH. You will need to pull the OD switch off of the donor vehicle.
