Posting this for a buddy that isnt too Internet savy.

His car is a 99 Intrepid with a 3.2L. Owned it since new, and has done all his wrenching. Car just broke 100k and he is planning on keeping it for 200k if possible.

He wants to change the timing belt - but wasnt sure if there were any special tools etc required. I had him order a complete repair manual and figured it would be pretty clear in there.

Any tips, easy/hard job etc etc. Lots of info ont he 2.7 and 3.5 - was the 3.2 sort of an odd duck engine?

Its not really too bad, you have to have the camshaft holding tools to do it. Remove the upper support and radiator, crank pulley, idler pulleys, etc, and your timing covers. youll have to take the rear camshaft covers off to insert the tools. They are available from OTC-- about $50-- problem is, if you time it off more than 1 tooth, youll bend the valves, ouch!!! it cost me 700 just to reman my heads w/out bent valves, (200k on the FREE motor, was a 2.7 now 3.2) couldnt imagine how much if you had bent valves!!!
