Oil Pump!!??@??!!

I am new to the site so hello all.
Now to business. I have a 99' 24 valve the oil pressure gauge just crashed today. Is there a way to check it to see if it is the sending unit or the oil pump is bad?? And is the pump in the pan or external?? Thanx fr any help.

Hard to check without a scan tool. The info goes to the PCM which is then bussed to the mechanical instrument cluster.

I would bet you have a bad sender.

Thanx sixxer, I went ahead and backed off the oil filter a little and cracked it up. Oil shot out so I assumed the pump worked so I drove it around. I guess the pump is good.
