hi i own a 96 3.3L V6... about half a year ago, the streeing start to make a clicking noise felt like something i blocking it whenever i around turn the streeing wheel, few months later, it getting worse.. the clicking noise is gone, now sometimes it has no power streeing.. so i took it to a shop... they told me its the streeing rack that causing the problem, i'll cost me about
600 + taxes... but i check the price on the rack only cost about 250$..
so i decide to do it myself,
i jack the car up
take the wheels and tie rod end out
it looks easy to remove it, but i couldnt figure out how to disconnect the rack from the streeing column shaft, and do i have to lower the sub-frame to get that out??

Yes...most FWD vehicles you have to lower the subframe to be able to 1) get the rack out and 2) disengage the rack from the steering column. You should also see a pin or bolt that hold the steering shaft to the rack.
