'97 Caravan transmission problem

Hi there. Our '97 Caravan just started today to refuse to shift into third gear. It's the 2,4 liter 4 cylinder with 3 speed automatic. Does the transmission fluid really matter that much? As far as I know we haven't used the Mopar fluid, should we try it and see if it gets any better or is the tranny simply shot? :help:

You definitely need to flush whatever fluid you have in there now and switch to the Chrysler ATF+3. Hopefully it's only a fluid related problem and not something terminal.
