I'm not even a shade tree mechanic, more like a shade bush mechanic, but I do try to fix what I can. I need a little direction with a heat problem on a 82 Custom 150. I was told when I bought the truck (in the summer) the heater core was replaced. It's cold now, and I have no heat. One hot water line is hot, the other is cold, so I figured there was a valve and maybe the cable to the valve was not hooked back up. After removing the glove box and checking the cable, it appears that this cable only operates a door, not a valve (unless there is a connection inside the box, I have not disassembled anything as yet). I have no manuals on this truck. Can anyone give me a few hints. I hate to go to the store and buy books and such when this truck is not worth much and only used on occasion. Thanks for any advise you can pass on.

If I recall correctly my 82 had a valve on the inner fender(under the hood) that regulated the flow of coolant to the heater core.
If your truck doesn't have one of these my guess would be that the heater core is plugged. This can happen if someone has used alot of stop leak. I would remove the hoses from the heater core and try to blow through the core. If you can't get any air through it then it is plugged. I would advise using a short length of hose and blowing into the hose. You can use compressed air for this but you must be extremely careful because the heater cores are not built to take much more than the 16-20 psi your cooling system produces under normal conditions.

Hope this helps.

Good luck,
