I have recently converted a from a 318 tbi to a 360. I was told that everything would be the same and that even the 318 tbi would not need to be changed. That there would be no conflicts. I can not get it to smooth out, and all the votages and sencors check out. No trouble codes, or anthing that might sugest that it is runing bad. I have to keep two manifold vacuum lines open just to get it to idle. ( to much Fuel ) The oxygen sencor is working correctly. Can anyone verify that all the coponents from the 318 will work with the 360, or what needs to be changed. I have a vibration that I suspect may be the torque converter, is that diferent than the 318?

Help please I am ready to bring out the sledge hammer.

I may be mistaken but the 360 was always externally balanced. Meaning the torque converter is weghted where as the 318 torque converter is not. If you have a torque converter from a 360 I would advise using that. I have heard of kits for fixing this problem like flexplates and other items but cannot recall who sells them. I have in a pinch removed weights from a 360 torque converter and welding them on a 318 converter but this isn't for the average shadetree mechanic.

I hope someone else can chime in and help you more with this.

Save the sledgehammer for the non-mopar junk.

Good luck,

The 360 converter definitely needs a weight as stated because it is an external balance engine, the vibration dampner would also be different.

The throttle body is different, the injectors are different, the engine controller is different.

On a side note, unplug the EGR valve and make sure it is not jammed open causing it to run that rich at idle. If it has a major vacuum leak it will also run rich, check your vacuum lines and routing
Also make sure the air switch solenoid is working properly for the air pump diverter valve, or just simply remove the air pump belt.

Hope this helps:)
