Hi, this is Lady Di . this is my first time here, i need help with a oil pump and gauge problem on a 89 Dodge Ramcharger 4x4, 360 engine V8. the gauge works for a while and then it quits. if i hit on the dash it will start again. i think that the lifters have started hitting, so i parked it until i can fix the problem. I can't located where the oil pump is at. can you help?

you will have to remove the oil pan to change the pump. this may involve raising the engine a few inches to clear the oil pan when you take it off. i would check your gauge unit first, since it works when you hit it, it's probably got a short or some thing in it.you can hook up an external oil gauge to see if your oil pump is working. 10-20 psi at idle is fine.
