Does anyone know what the acceleration is with the HEMI engine?

I'm getting 7.0-7.5 0-60's depending on how I launch.

Do you know the factory estimates
IndyHemi

I've never seen factory estimates. Besides my own numbers, all I've seen are what the mags say. The magazines numbers don't even come close to mine. Go figure.

With the airraid intake as my only mod, I'm getting 0-60 in 7.01 to 7.2, and 1/4 mile in 15.35 to 15.75, depending on launch. Amazingly, I get the best times without holding the brake, and allowing the thing to shift itself. The worst time I got was holding the brake and manually shifting about 5700rpm. The 15.35 to 15.4 e.t. is consistent when letting her shift for herself. (2004 Hemi Durango with trailer package)

What gears do you have in it? I'm sure 3.92's are the quicker of the two ratios.

I've got the 3.55 rear end.

Stock HEMI 3.92s. g-tech easily gets 7 and sometimes better.
If it weren't for torque managerment (cutting power between shifts), it would be a lot faster. This is why the D* hemi is so fast when you floor it and it only has to downshift once.

I do believe motor trend claimed the HEMI D, to go from 0-60 in 7.9/8.0 seconds. Everyone seems to be getting better numbers.

No magazine has tested a D* HEMI with 3.92s. I drove both. I don't tow anything but wanted the gears and the gears always came with the tow package. The one with the gears had way more off the line grunt, so I had to go with that. Our gas mileage sucks real bad. We average 15.5 with 80% freeway driving. Of course my wife drives 75 to 80 everywhere.

Car and Driver tested a D with the Hemi and 3.92s in Apr'04 - FYI 0-60 was 7.2 sec I believe.

15.5mpg ain't that bad. I'm lucky to see 14+mpg with the 360.

Wow, I would be really happy with 15.5. I have the 4.7 and I'm only getting 11mpg. I thought it was my lead foot. I have driven like me grandma, still the same. This is in town mpg, I haven't been on a long enough drive to figure hwy.

Unlike quite a few people these days that speed up for red lights, I coast, saving lots of gas in the process. First couple tanks I did drive it harder than I should have, and I got 10.5mpg! Tsk tsk tsk.

My D. has the 3.91 due to the tow package. We recently went 2,400 miles from Louisiana to Texas to Kansas, driving about 75 mph (average speed, including gas stops) and averaged 20.4 mpg, with Airraid filter and the rubber shroud removed from the front of the stock air intake scoop. I think the rubber shield in front of the intake scoop is to stop birds, water and cool air from being sucked into the intake. I was really satisfied with 20.4 on the highway, and even with a week of city driving our computer registered exactly 20.0 mpg overall. We drove fast and passed slower traffic on some two lane roads. This baby has a great passing gear, as well as a 7 second 0 to 60, and 15.3 quarter mile e.t. at 92+mph. Not bad for a heavy s.u.v. Towing my old '61 Chrysler 300G I got 13.1 mpg at 65 to 67 mph. I'm satisfied with that, too. Now to add my Jetchip.....

I got a Gtech of 6.93sec 0-60 with the Airaid (tube only), removed rubber, and the tranny in "Tow" mode which seems to hold the shift longer.

If I have the tow package, does that mean I have 3.92 gearing as well?
And does it make much of a difference taking off the rubber from the intake tube as far as airflow? I already have an Airaid CAI.

yeah a few magazines have rated them at 7.9-8.0 0-60 and bout 15.6ish in the 1/4mile nothing like my modded srt-4 i just traded in but oh well. at least its got a hemi with tow package and will have tons of mods soon enough.

What I really like about the Hemi is that the factory horsepower ratings are always hiding the real ratings.
Hot Rod Magazine just tested a bone stock 5.7L Hemi Magnum V8 w/o MDS and it got 376 horsepower and 372 torque instead of the rated 345hp/375tq!!!
What really sweetens the deal is that the Hemi has been so well designed and built that its testing sessions at Chrysler were very heavy.
Not only is the Hemi a remarkable engine output-wise, but it is nearly bulletproof reliability-wise. It should surpass the 318 as the most reliable motor Chrysler has ever produced!!!

Was that flywheel or rear wheel? I've only seen stock ones get about 270hp at the wheels on a dyno.

Flywheel numbers, but I'd imagine drive wheels would be around the 250-280hp stock depending on altitude, transmission temp, climate etc...

I know, unfortunately the Hemi Durango w/MDS gives you 335hp.
But hey: 335hp is still better than 230hp from the 4.7L Magnum V8.

mds would be nice on the durango would def help on gas alot i heard its soooo smooth u cant even her it switch from on to off. but yeah ill call around i think the hub dyno awd local is like 60 for two pulls and the dynojet is like 130 i know the hub is a lil more accurate.

Nope, I wasn't thinking about the torque management.
Funny, I thought the Durango had MDS. I guess then the loss of horses is due to the additional electronics the Durango has.

Actually, the Durango has tighter exhaust packaging and more backpressure than the RAM's...
MDS launches on the Durango in 2006.

yes i can vouch for the exhaust and backpressure i just climbed under it and WOW talk about restrictive!!!! man thats got TONS of potential just hiding in there. if my wife wasent so into the warrenty i would run some longtube headers and a nice free flowing exhaust. but for now 1st part will be the mopar catback

went down to a local exhaust shop stans headers they have 5.7 hemi headers he looked at the motor and said its a similar design and he can make me a custom set for like 1550 or so? too much for me im sure mopar will get some for it soon enough. my set up that i would like the the headers like the ram ypipe kit w/ high flow cats and borla/mopar catback that would be a nice setup!!

check out jba.. I got their headers and am impressed with the assdyno. I found an awd dynoshop about an hours drive from me. I will be giving them a call to see if they can do my D. I bought the ceramic titanium set and had them installed for around $1K. I think there are 2 much cheaper sets than the ceramic ones I got, so you could come out hundreds cheaper than I did.
justin21
07-28-2005, 11:48 PM
yeah when i get some headers they will definetly be ceramic coated not just for looks but for performance and keeping the temps down. yeah i know jba makes some headers i believe there short tube and i know that some welding is required. i would prefer long tube like the mopar ones are on the hemi ram so i think ill just get catback for now. should be sometime soon then wait a few months for mopar to get off there @$$ to make them as well as the cai. im assuming the cai should be out soon cuz aem co makes it with mopar and there releasing theres soon allready got pricing and dyno #s. i bet ur hemi is really moving now with the cai headers and catback u gonna run a programmer???? that should give great power as well as the cam.

Are you looking at running true duals? Is there room under the D to even do that? I will be getting the Superchips as soon as it is released. PremierTruck already has my credit card info, and now we are just waiting on the release date. I'm not sure about getting a cam just yet. It seems the Ram guys who have done it have problems idleing and it throws a lot of codes. So I'm definitely not going to be one of the first D guys to get one.
justin21
07-29-2005, 11:09 AM
throwing codes hu?? thats no good i was reading that most of the stock hardwear is being used but you can upgrade to "beehive" valve springs and there making titanium ones currently. as for as duels go im not going to i know it would flow better and should make more power but the wife is obsessed with the warrenty so ill try to keep my mods minimal for a while. supertech is defiently the way to go i believe its a good company as msd bought them out a while back and they stand behind their products. as far as is there room not too sure i know that the gas tank is over behind the driver side and finding room would probaly be tough with 27gallons in the way ill have to go look after i finish posting this.
