I have a V-6 1997 Dodge Stratus with 105,000 miles. The oil pressure light is coming on every now and then.

It started happening while I was idle. When I revved the engine a little, the light went out...this happened about 3 times on the way into work (at idle, not during the highway drive).

I always change the oil -- it was changed 2 days ago.

Any thoughts?

My uncle had a similar problem 3 weeks ago with a Sebring - it turned out that the oil pressure sender was bad and so many had been going bad that the dealership was out of that part.

The oil pressure sender is unlike the standard senders used on most DC engines with the 1/8 pipe thread - this one is larger thread and metric.

The sender is right above the oil filter fitting - a tight place to get to but doable if the vehicle is jacked up and the oil filter removed to give you room.

I am having this problem with my 1998 Stratus ES as we speak, it started out only doing it at idle but has now started doing it at highway speeds ocassionaly.

Did anything happen with this. Have you tried replacing the sensor?

I just received an email reply from my local Dodge dealership withy a quote on the price for the part. The pcost is 13.95 from the dealership, I am setting up an appointment to have it put on, I will post my results after I get it on, I really really hope that is the problem, I have a fresh oil change and the engine is not running rough when this happens and I took the oil cap off while in idle with the light on and it spurted oil out so I assume it is getting pressure, I have asked around and looked at this board and the sender unit seems to be a pretty common problem so hopefully that will cure it.

i'm having a similar problem on my 97 Cirrus w/ 2.5 V6, and i've heard that it could be that part.....now i'm pretty sure it is.
