For all you other 'PowerWagon' guys/gals...

Just wondering about what kind of gas milage y'all get.

I've got a 79' W150, 360, auto, full time 4x4 and 31x10.5 tires
It used to have a 2 barrel Holly (stock) on it and I got about 9 mpg...
Since then, I replaced the intake/carb with one of those Edelbrock 'performer' setups (Intake manifold is like what we used to call a 'torker' back in the old days, and the carb is kinda' like the old quadrajets ... small primaries and big secondaries)... Plus I stripped off every single piece of smog equipment that was on it :D
Now I get about 12 mpg with a much 'healthier' engine....

Anyway, is this about the best I can expect to get? Any hints so as to squeeze another 1-2 mpg's out of it? I know that for what it is, the gas milage is going to suck anyway, but at $2.00 a gallon, it needs all the help it can get..

thanks in advance!

Can try 100% synthetic oils/fluids as long as you don't leak. I have Amsoil in the front and rear diffs and the transfer case on my 77 W200. Havnt switched the 727 over to it yet. 440's are hard to keep valve covers sealed on so I'm not sure if I will put synthetic in the engine.

If you are presently getting 12 with your combination, I'd say you are doing pretty good.

For idle quality, high torque during tip in and mileage connect your vacuum advance to manifold vacuum. You want your ignition timing during cruise condition to be high 40's to low 50's degrees.

My lil red truck gets 10 to 12 no matter what, it seems pretty average for a 360. As a matter of fact my 01 Dakota 360 only gets 13, go figure 22 years later, same mileage!!!

As low as 7 mpg in "stop and go" traffic in town, 12 mpg mixed arterial/freeway driving.
Bone stock 1975 D100 w/ slightly newer (82?) LA318 and 4spd manual
Optimum mileage is at about 48 mph

Best I got got on my 73 with a 360 4 bbl was 17 mpg. Factory intake, with a carter afb 500.
I dropped a 318 in, with a holley intake, and a 1405 edelbrock, and could squueze about 15 out of it.
My brother had a 73 w100. Had an interceptor 360 engine in it. It got about 15 with the thermoquad. We rebuilt it, cammed it, rebuilt the tranny and threw a 750 holley(after the thermoquad died from age) on it. We recorded 20 - 22 mpg highway. (yeah, whoa, were still not sure how we did it, but it ran a quarter tank(23 gallon) for a 110 mile daily round trip) The sucker was scary quick.
I took out an SRO Thunderbird with it at highway speeds, slamming my head into the rear glass when I downshifted and we regularly took mild to medium street rods with it. (partially of course because the other drivers wernt ready for that kind of snap out of a truck).
I havent figured out what I can do with my 86 yet, but the rockrusher quarapuke on it is dead and or dying.
Before it started dying, I was getting about 15 or so.

I feel for ya djhellan. Mines a 73 w100 with a eddie performer and a holly 600 4 barrell. I usually get around 10mpg with 33x12.50s
