this morning i couldn't get my new 05 caravan to start. the engine would not turn over. then i noticed that the a/c was on the lowest setting and there was a low humming noise. when i turned the a/c to the off position, i was able to start up the car w/ no problem. i was wondering if the two problems were connected or if anyone else had the same problem. i don't want to go through the hassle of taking the van into the dealer. Thanks

I can't help your problem, but I'd say that unless it's a distance/time issue for you, taking a new vehicle in to the dealer shouldn't be a hassle. And if it is, you need to find another dealer. When I lived in Michigan, I went through a lot of trial-and-error before I found a dealership whose service department opened earlier (7 a.m.), stayed open later (9 p.m.), took work on weekends, gave lifts to work and loaners, and got the job done right. I rewarded them by buying my next two vehicles there. Then the long-time owner retired, and everything I loved about doing business there was undone by the clowns that bought him out. Service hours were shortened, only salesmen came in on Saturday mornings (and didn't even turn the lights on), top service guys left, and they wouldn't give you a lift to work anymore.
There's an old saying that goes something like, "Only dance with the one that loves you." I only give my business where they love their customers.

I wonder if it's some sort of safety "lockout" so the compressor doesn't spin while your try to start the engine. ?????

It may be new , but this sounds like you may have gotten a bad battery . When the fan was on it put enough drain on it where it couldn't turn the starter . Once you turned it off the drain was gone and it had enough to start the van , faulty batteries can cause all kinds of flakey problems in todays computer controlled cars .
