I have a high mileage 97 Intrepid, is it wise to use synthetic oil? My shade tree mechanic friend says no, that oil leaks will happen. However, what I have read, suggest they are better overall for the engine, and somewhat improve gas mileage. Any feedback would greatly be appreciated. I am trying to improve my gas mileage, any other suggestions on products would be great. Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can. I bought my Avenger w/ 105,000 miles on it, and statred to use it then. No oil leaks, better milage, higher oil pressure (k&n oil filter).

Thanks, I put the oil in, maybe my imagination, but the car runs and idles smoother, couldn't get the filter, will probably have to order it on line.

I have a 96' Intrepid w/ 130K on it. I strongly recommend the use of synthetic oil. It will definitely increase the life of your engine. I personally use the MOPAR filters as they are readily available and seem to be a bit higher quality than alot of the "will fit" stuff. I also recommend the use of Rislone twice a year to keep any engine deposits removed and to keep the lubrication system at top efficiency..................Pete

Sinthetic oil can be used at anytime. They say not to because of you may have worn seals and they say sinthetic is more smooth it can leak through.

i read somewere and it works for my 3.3 to do this

1st oil chainge 4qts dino oil - 1 qt sin
2nd '' ''' 3 qts dino - 2 qt sin
3rd '' ''' 2 qts dino - 3 sin
4th oil change Full sinthetic
