Guages Don't work Either

For the past 6 months when I turn on the car sometimes the guages dont light up and my fuel & speedo don't move. If I turn the car off and keep turning the key to the on position before I turn it over until I see the Instrument panel light up then start it it's fine and I drive 60 miles one way to work and never hd problem while driving. However if I don't turn it off if the guages dont come on and try to drive it it sticks in low gear for awhile then lundges an everything comes on but the air bag stays lit and it drives rough. If anyone has had a similar problem and had it repaired please help with a diagnosis because me dealer don't know jack. (I suspect electrical and my next step is to buy and instal a new wiring harness.)

Replace your ignition switch. I was having the same problem. Turning the key on and off until. Bling! I have lights. The switch is on the left side of the steering column. You have to remove the tilt lever to get the cover off. Make sure you have a few star drivers on hand because of the screws. One more thing if you buy the switch the screws that come with it do not use those. Use the ones already in place. I bought a Haynes book from AutoZone for instructions on how to install it.
