Hey all again.... :help:
79 Dodge W150...
The light on the dash that says 'Transfer Case Loc' flickers... No matter what mode the transfer case is in....
(Personally It doesn't bother me, but my wife can't tell what mode she's in just by the 'feel' and I don't want her trearing up the drivetrain having it in LOC when it shouldn't be)
Anyway, I figured there must be some sort of switch or something somewhere... Maybe just needs cleaned or adjusted....
Looked through the wiring diagrams and couldn't find a thing... Looked around the tranny/transfer case .... Didn't find anything other than for backuplights/reverse.....
Anyone know what I'm supposed to be looking for? And where?

Thanks in advance...

The switch should be on the transfer case shifter under the hump in the floor board. you may have a bad switch or an intermittent short in the wiring..maybe the switch is just loose?

Ahhhh! Probably why I didn't see it from below ;^) Wonder why this wasn't in my Haynes manual (I know.... They're not the best)
Thanks for the info.... Hopefully it's just loose, I'll bet these are one of those parts that would be next to impossible to find new....

If you need a new one, just let me know and I will try to help you find one. :D

Well, I got under the truck yesterday and sure enough I found the switch. The body of the switch was still in the bracket, but the 'guts' of the switch looks like it came apart and just fell out. The wire that should connect to the switch was dangeling and rubbing on the transfer case, thus the 'flickering light.
I looked on the net at the more 'popular' part stores and none of them have it, of course.....

Any idea where I can get one? Maybe I'll stop by the Dodge dealer next time I'm in town... It's an old truck, but sometimes I'm surprised by what they still can get....

Look on the plastic body of the switch and see if you can find a part number on it such as 3895689?

I'll have to get back under there and try to remove it without wrecking it...
Not much room for my hand up there....
It's on a 203 transfer case if that helps....

Sorry, I thought maybe you already had it out. My parts book indicates that part number 3895689 was used through the year 1979. Give Dodge a call and see if they still can get it, if not, get back to me. The Dodge dealers are usually lazy about looking up old part numbers, you may want to visit them in person and also ask them if they can do a dealer search for the part if need be.
