So here it is. I removed the resonator first and it was an improvement in sound. Not too much more noise in the Durango and n change to the drone (even though dodge said it was fixed). Then I purchased and installed the Flowmaster 50 Series. I had a friend help with the install. The Flowmaster was a quite a bit smaller then the stock hunk of steel. A pretty easy install. A small piece of steel piping between the muffler and the catalitic converter. Then the mounting ws easy with two people. Sounds great. Inside noise is a little more but if I turn the radio to 12-14 it drowns out the muffler. My wife and I can talk with no issues. Also she thinks it is a great sound. I attached a wav file with the sound. any questions just ask.

Sounds great John...........
Thanx for wave files, I uploaded both..........
The Flowmaster sounds more crisp then just the resonator removal. They both sound good, I guess if my concern is the loudness then I better stick with just removing the resonator. I am thinking this is the way for me to go.
It really sounds sweet!
Thanx again for the info.

I'll get pictures of the muffler when it stops raining. The drone is still present but at not as noticable as before. The drone it is still at the same RPM range.
As for the noise it all depends on the tip you use. I am using a split tip that cut the sound a lillte. I am thinking on getting a larger tip later. It sounds great now but I want a little lounder. I am probably going to a single 3" tip instead of a dual 2.25" tip. The sound should be deeper and a bit louder.
At least now it sounds like a HEMI. No change in gas milage yet that I have noticed due to the fact that now since it is louder my foot has been heavier. Having too much fun with rumble to check milage.

That would be my problem also! I'd be in the Punch it Mode 24/7.......... Pulling about 8 MPG just cuz it sounds so great. I have no self-control.
I still think for me, I'm going to just go with the resonator removal.
I can always take the full leap like you did later.

John - great sound and looks. Would you mind sharing the exact model #flowmaster muffler you used (there are a couple of 50 series)?. I was looking at / listening to the 50 Big Block series on FM's site, was wondering if that's what you went with and which inlet/outlet configuration you used. Also wondering what brand/size stainless tip you went with. Thanks so much. Awesome setup and sound, exactly what I've been looking for. -Jon L. hemidoc

Hey John. Im new here. Couldnt get the file to open. Oh well. Im asuming you have the 4.7L in the Durango. I have a 05 with the 4.7 and its quite as a mouse. My wifes grand caravan sounds better  . If you do have the 4.7L did you get a deeper tone with the resonator gone? I currently dont have a drone at all. The stock exhaust on this one is agrivating. I had a 03 Ram Quad Cab with the 4.7 and the factory exhaust sounded pretty good. Im just wanting something thats deeper and more agressive sounding. I was thinking about the 50 series for SUVs. Man I wish I could open that file. Thanks in advance.

Two questions: I just installed a flowmaster 70 series myself. I clamped down those supplied clamps extra tight, but then the last instruction was to weld them. Do I need to? I am already getting better MPG.
Second......Will the added exhaust void my warranty?
Anything else I can do to improve MPG

over time the clamps can loosen up and you will have exhaust leaks under your vehicle which can seep into your interior. Also exhaust leaks can cause the system to rust in different places easier.. and you may get a leak sound from under the vehicle. welding just keeps all of that from happening.
no, warranties can only be voided if the dealership can prove the aftermarket part was the direct reason for a problem.

I have a 5.7L Hemi. At first I removed just the resonator. It did give me a better sound, a little deeper and a little louder. I had to replace the muffler though, it just wasn't enough. I put a flowmaster 50 Series on the D and it sounded awesome. I did most of the work my self. It cuts down on cost.
