I have a 2005 Dakota SLT Quad Cab. I recently found out it has a governor that limits my speed to 100 mph. Does anyone know of a way to eliminate or raise the governor.

The speed limiter is based on the tire speed rating and is set at the factory. If you have your computer performance flashed, it can be reset. My 2001 5.9 QC was limited at 115-117 mph as I had a performace wheel/tire package. I have since had my computer flashed and it will supposed go to 135 mph, although I have not even tried to see if it will go that fast. The only reason I know mine cut out at 115-117 was when I was involved in a hit and run accident and I chased down the other driver. I have not had a reason to go that fast since. But when I do, I will be ready......

Thanks for the info. What exactly do you mean by having the card flashed?

There are some companies that have a program that can re program the computer that controls engine performance. Changes can include timing advances, shift modifications to higher RPMs, torque management removal, modification of the speed limiter, disengagement of the AC compressor during WOT and so on.
Pre 2001 Dakota (and Ram) Owners had the option of purchasing a MOPAR preformance computer. These are not available for the 2001 and later models.
It is rather expensive to have your computer re programmed. Mine cost over $500.

There isn't any flashes for the '05, and I wouldn't expect to see any in the near future.

Hit and run summary:
Shortly after I got my 2001 QC, my wife and I were going along the IH 10 freeway in the Katy, TX area just west of Houston. I looked in the rear view mirror and saw a Lexus hauling ass up to my rear end. I swerved to the right to the shoulder to try and avoid the impact but not fast enough. The Lexus rammed my bumper. I was going about 60 mph at the time of the collision and luckily, I did not lose control of the truck. The Lexus pulled along side of me as we were still going and the driver just stared at me with no emotion. I motioned for him to pull over so we could trade and trade information. Well, he took off. And I took off after him. He existed the freeway and tried to lose me in a commercial area. I chased him though some parking lots. At one point he was going so fast he became airborne at an incline and almost completely flipped the Lexus end over end. He landed with the front end of the Lexus scrapping the concrete with sparks flying all over the place. I was able to slow enough so that I just "glided" into the air and landed smoothly.
The Lexus got back on the freeway and hauled with me right behind him. The Dak kept up with the Lezus until I hit 115 mph, then the engine cut off until it slowed to 110. My wife was freaking out and kept telling me to quit chasing him. I was absolutely not going to let him get away. I do have a concealed hadgun license and was armed at the time. (Thank God I did not have the circumstance to use it).
I had to hold my speed at like 112 - 114 to keep from killing the engine. I was able to stay close enough to see him exit the freeway at the city of Katy. We followed. My wife had called 911 on the cell and had been in touch with the Harris County Sheriff department during the first part of the chase. When we entered Katy, the County dispatcher transferred us to the Katy Police Department dispatcher. My wife was relaying out location to the dispatcher. At one point during the chase we drove right past the Katy police department going about 90 mph. A Katy Policeman was in front of the station carrying in a stack of pizzas as we flew by with me blowing the horn!!! My wife was telling the dispatcher that "we are going by the Police Station, right now!!"
During the chase through Katy, a Katy detective in his personal Chevy got into the chase. At first he wasn't sure who the bad guy was, but he soon figured it out as he saw the Lexus drive through yards and ditches. I was chasing the Lexus and the Chevy was behind me. Soon there were several marked police cars in the chase also. At that point I dropped out of the chase. I sorta wanted too and was told too by the dispacher. The Lexus gave the cops a good run for their money as it took them about 30 minutes to finally stop him. Before it was over, there were a dozen Katy and Harris County units in pursuit of the guy. They finally stopped him by surrounding the Lexus with four squad cars and forcing him to a stop. We were directed to the scene so that we could ID the driver. The driver was a Cambodian teenager that had taken the Lexus without permission from a friends house (it belonged to his friend's parents). Lucky for me the owner did not press charges against the teenager and their insurance covered my damage. It was only about $1000: a bent bumper and a small dent in the lower rear panel. I thought that the damage would be much worse based on the impact.
The driver faced several felony charges and ended up spending 45 days in jail!!
It was a pretty exciting and scarry ride!!!
Next time I will be ready as my speed limiter has been raised to 135!!
