You either have a bad crank or cam sensor. With a dealer computer hooked up, when it goes limp they can tell for sure which sensor is bad. The 2.5 is a V6, and I am not sure what the cam sensor configuration is. You should be able to replace both sensors for less than 100, the dealer may have the best price for the sensor also. The cost of the dealer diagnosis, is probably more than just buying both sensors and replacing both, or just doing trial and error. The sensor is what captures your tach and when it cuts out you are losing the tach signal. My car is standard and when my cam sensor went it was a very rough ride until we figured it out, because my car would keep pop starting itself. Good luck.

Hey -- I am not a car expert by any means, but I own a '95 stratus and I had similar problems. The difference was that my car would stall when idling, mostly when it was cold, so whenever I'd slow down at a stoplight or to turn my car would die and I'd have to start it again.
In my case, it was my timing belt. It just needed to be readjusted and then it worked great. Although a couple of years later it's starting to happen again, rarely.
I'd check into the timing belt issue. It shouldn't cost much at all to have someone look at it.
