I have a stock 97 2500 V10 and I am looking for input on whether 16x8 rims will fit. I currently have stock rims but would like to move to a wider rim(16 x8). I have found info regarding what tires will fit without rubbing but have not seen any info regarding rim width.

;) :stk: Better do the rim backspacing math. I 'm not sure if your truck has 4 wheel disk, or drums like mine in the rear ( 95 2500 V10).
Either way, I decided after serious research to keep the stock rims, and just upsize the tires - but this is the daily driver version of the truck, not the semi-radical off-road big foot clone.
As I recall (I lost some files during my last PC upgrade that included the tire research) the stock 16x7 rim will nicely hold and track a 75/295 tire as opposed to the stock 245, and still fit inside the front wells when truning. I use the 265 series, and this is worth about 1 inch diameter increase. Back then 295 was basically unheard of, but now adays I understand there is some selection.

16x8's will fit with no problem - one inch is almost nothing. Just be careful on the backspacing and offset because there can be an issue with wear on the bearings since they are close together on the Dodge design. You do not want the same backspacing on a wider wheel - you want the same offset!!! On a 16x8 rim, your backspacing will be the original + 1/2 inch. What tires do you plan on going with? Let me know what wheels and tires you go with as I am planning on doing mine soon.

I have a 97 2500 4x4 V10 with a two inch lift in the front and run 17 x 10's with no major problems with a 35" tire. With no lift, 16 x 8's with 33's should be fine. 35's will need a little lift. I think I have 4 - 4 1/2" backspacing.
