What kind of mileage are you getting on your Dakotas? Also what model and size engine do you have?

I just got a 2005 SLT 4.7L Club cab and the onboard console says I'm getting 11.1 MPG aroung town.
It only has 16 miles on it. O hope it gets better after breakin.

stuck at basically 15.3 and I'm at 1700+ miles now. same driving as posted above (upped the speed a bit now that I've broke in a little more) - I hope less 4WD in the summer will get me more. I don't feel bad though I get basically 1-4 miles less per gallon on my v8 than my jeep grand c V6. also drove a 05 jeep liberty for a few days and it only got 16.5ish on that V6. I'll take the V8.

Thanks for the info. I was worried that my MPG would not get better. I guess I'll see after I go through a couple of tanks of gas.
Right now @ 11 MPG is not too good.

I drove a 2005 Dakota Quad Cab SLT 4x4, 4.7 v8, 5spd automatic, with 3.55 rear and DSA (limited Slip) yesterday. I noticed on the highway at 65mph the rpms were at 2400 and when I dropped down to 55, the fifth gear kicked in and the rpms dropped to like 1500. What's up with that? It seemed like it never went into 5th gear at 65mph?
Also, I didn't realize the 3.55 came in "open" or "limited slip" versions? I looked in glove box and it said 3.55 rear end and then in another column it said DSA, which means the limited slip version? Something's not right here? I thought the LS was the 3.92 in the Dakota?
The window sticker shows 15 city and 20 highway? The best I good get on the test drive was 17.2 at 55mph with cruise control set.
I noticed there was little to no storage space in the truck too. I guess I've been spoiled with a 2500 and rear storage and fold down on back seat.
I'm gonna look at a Toyota Tacoma 4x4 quad cab with 6cyl, rated at 22mpg HWY.

Have the 05 dakota Quadcab SLT with the 4.7 V8. All Xtras you can get!

I get about 15.5 mpg. in the city. But that's the price you pay for the power!
I also have the 3.55 rear end.

Hey there

Wow, 20 mpg! It must be the flowmasters! I guess they do make a big difference in HP/milage.

Quick question:
Are your flowmaster 40's very noisey?

Interesting to see how low some of these are getting . I had a extended length 97 Dodge RaM conversion which weighed over 5000 lbs with the 318 V8 and I used to get over 18 mpg on the highway at 70 mph . Seems to me they didn't gain a whole lot by developing the 4.7 as far as gas mileage over the old 318 V8 .

I averaged 19.3 on a 150-mile trip recently, with cruise locked in around 68. It goes down to about 18 at Interstate speeds (75 around here) and I've seen as good as 22-23 at 55 mph briefly. I should be pretty well along the breakin process at 4400 miles.

I'm pretty satisfied considering the mileage my dad's older Daks get. His '93 averages around 18-19 on long trips, and the summer I drove the '95 I averaged 20 on one trip hauling some stuff back to college. Both of those are 3.9L club cab 5-speed 4x4s, for reference. And I've got 50 more HP and a slushbox to run that power through :)

Hey, thanks for the input. I just kicked in 6k miles. I am now averageing 16.4 mpg. so it went up a little. I'm waiting for the high performance upgrades to kick in (superchip, K&N cold air intake) etc. to get better milage.

all in all, I am very satisfied with my 05 Dakota Quad. :gr_patrio

Thanks again,

We get about 15 or 16 around town. Its a 4.7L auto 4x4 with 3.55 gears. We pull a 4400 lb 21 ft trailer and we get about 9 mpg.

Recently traded '03 RAM 1500 W/T for an '05 dak quad cab, needed the extra room for mother-in-law (lol)....both vehicles had 6s...gas mileage on RAM was a steady 17mpg, currently the best I get in the dak (highway) is 18 and 15 around town...hoping to find someway to boost the mileage and the performance. Any suggestions would be welcome...
