My sister has a '74 camper special dodge pick up. The motor, 361 CID, has been rebuilt 2 years ago, but the tranny needs some work. I'm looking for a good rebuildable automatic trany, or the whereabouts of purcehing one. Any and all help, is greatly appreciated. :help:

'74 Dodge Camper Special Pickup
need help locating syurdy bed for doge camper special truck. Would like to make sure that it has the tool compartments which are located on the sides of the bed (would like but are optional). It's at least an 8 foot bed, pretty sure it is, but it is a 3/4 ton pickup.

looking for a two barrel to fit a 360 CID '74 automatic camper special. I'm not a gear head, but can work my way around a motor to keep it running. I was given the shaft with previous carb, this time i know what i'm looking for.

Why not just have the transmission you have now rebuilt? A heavy duty rebuild with a shift kit would be good for it and adding an auxillary transmission cooler.

As for the carburetor, you local auto parts store should be able to get you another one. Or just have the carb. you have now rebuilt professionally.

Of course another option is to swap in an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake and Edelbrock 4bbl. carburetor to give you some more power.

I agree with Nate.... So far as the tranny get what you have rebuilt. The only minor prob may be finding a shop in your area that does quality work, but just ask around. If you have someone that knows what they are doing, along with a decent shift kit, you'll have a tranny better than original. And the tranny cooler is a very good idea also. A Hayden aftermarket kit is pretty cheap, and excellent insurance.

As for the carb, I at first bought a rebuilt 2 barrel Holly (Stock) on my 79' 360. bought it from NAPA. It ran fine and probably still does. I had some $$ burning a hole in my pocket a year back and bought the Edelbrock/4 barrel combo when it was on sale. Not only is it a BRAND NEW carb, the intake manifold/carb combo, gives it more torque AND I get about 3 mpg more.... I figure that at gas at almost $2.00 a gallon, it'll pay for itself after not too long.

As for body parts, if you have one of those 'Pick a' Part' places near you, try that. You know, one of those places that charge you a buck to get in, and you do all the wrenching yourself, but the parts are VERY cheap! AND.... you may have to revisit it several times waiting for the right rig to show up, but sooner or later it will. Be patient though.... I have a 79' W150 and had to wait several months to get a near-perfect grill and headlight frames for it.... But I got them for $15.00 ;^)
Or if you can't wait, most wrecking yards have 'hotlines' connecting each other, so you can find what you need RIGHT now.... But be prepared to spend a few $$....

Anyway, hope this helped.
