Your newest rival will be the Lancer Evo 9, here is a leaked video of a test run. it's a 9.38mb .mov file. Most of the guys in the forum i got this from said it sounds like a tie fighter.

You can either right click and save the file, or just click on it to watch it through their site...

I don't see how that car can be considered competition to the srt-4. It's gonna cost 10K US more, and if it makes it to Canada and is priced like the STI it will be 21K more. So it better be a better car then my srt.

I've read alot on most of you guys and your racing, basically if it's got four wheels and motor, you race it. I even read about the srt-4 racing the hemi rams in the forums. I also heard alot about them racing the Evo. just because your not up to it... doesn't mean others arent all for it. :stupid:

I didn't say that I'm not up to it, because anything is possible during a race. However, it wont be sold in Canada, so I don't have anything to worry about. But to level the playing field a little, we'd have to go from a roll. But people say that racing from a roll is the ghey way of racing. And we both know if the evo owner can drive, and is willing to abuse his car, that it'll kill the srt off the line from a stop. That's all I meant.

Price aside, is it a compact like the SRT4? I think Mitsubishi and Subaru have a pretty big rivaly going. How does the SRT 4 stack up aginst those? Sorry, I am just curious and dont check on the SRT forums much. Thanks!

Off the line the mitsu. and the sub. will pull ahead. They are awd compared to our fwd. But from a roll the advantage is the srt's. The numbers are close enough the it is a drivers race in both cases. Neither car puts up unbeatable numbers compared to the others.

I did the same thing! I was lining up to buy a 2003 Evo 8, brand new. but decided to not occupied all my finances on one item. I bought the dream truck first, will build the hell out of it, then go back and get an evo in a couple of years...

The evo is coor if you're not into looks. The lancer is one of the cheapest ugliest cars on the road. of course is my opinion. I'd love to drive one for fun but only to beat the piss out of it. The SRT is 2/3 the price of the Evo. How is the torque steer in the srt?

yea no shit but the car is faster the a pagini zonda from a stop and from a roll i mean comon you have to respect that shit fwd has its limits and even a stock srt-4 feels like your in a popcorn machine when you launch it

the torque steer in my friends 700mile on the odometer '05 is kinda unpredictable it jumps left and right but not like his turbo honda used to do with only one drive wheel felt like a big electo magnet was just turned on trying to suck you off the road the srt pretty much stays in its own lane as fair as i have seen

that is what I thought I almost bought a Saab Viggen a few years back it had 235 hp and a ton of torque and the scary thing was the torque steer. It had enough power that doing 60 on dry pavement you could drop to 2nd and lose traction and or change lanes. Was a blast, I still want one. The Harmon Kardon stereo rocked.

I gotta say, having owned an Evo, that SRT's don't always have an Evo from a roll stock for stock. I never had one stock SRT get me from a roll or even come close to catching me from a dig. These are either weak Evo's, or SHITTY drivers. The cars are on average fairly close on the roll, at least from what I've seen. My car was stock drivetrain the whole time I owned it. I had a Perrin short shift, Tien suspension, Weds Sport wheels on Advans. It was quite strong stock and layed down 252hp and 253tq @ the wheels, which was slightly stronger than average. I ran repeated 4.5 0-60 times, and at the track I ran mostly 12.9-13.0's. On the other hand, I've seen inexperienced drivers run low 14's in an Evo. Embarassing.
I did though run a stage 2 SRT from 50-90, and he handed me my rear. They are great cars, especially for the price, and I wouldn't mind rocking one. How can you beat a fairly light FWD car with that kind of power and engine durability for 20K? Nowhere else.
Either way, I converted and just picked my Hemi Ram up this morning. :rck:
Dodge rocks.

Or for that price you can buy a Dodge Viper and kick the **** out of the Pagani Zonda and the Evo.

Don't believe the hype. The EVO has way too many fanboi's out there. The MR, for all its badassness, isn't that great. For tarmac racing, it would be awesome from what I hear, but that car was not built for drag. I'm not saying the SRT-4 was, I'm simpling saying that drag is not the EVO's purpose. Say what you will, I raced an EVO MR at the track one night, and even with some righteous wheelhop, he never pulled a full car-length on me.

At the Solo Races I have rode and drove all three the STi, EVO VIII and SRT-4 and belive it or not my fastest times came in the STi but the SRT-4 I was only a couple tenths off of the STi's pace, the Evo just flat sucked, I almost beat it in MY Neon

sorry, an SRT-4 doesnt have much of a chance against an STI, 300hp+ AWD= no chance stock Vs. stock

TripleXJ
05-19-2005, 02:58 PM
You are forgetting something, the STi HAS to have 300hp due to being AWD cuase the AWD makes it heavier and gives more points to loose power to the ground. Don't get me wrong I love the STi but don't even say there is no chance in stock vs stock

zEus
05-19-2005, 03:16 PM
they do have a chance just from a roll, from a dead stop the awd with 300 brake horsepower will win

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! That's gotta be the most fanboy sounding statement I've ever heard. It may make 300hp at the crank, but only 250 or so of that makes it to the pavement. Add the extra weight of the STI, and that's not impressive. I'm not modded very extremely, but even my car would beat the stuffing out of a STI. Stock for stock, It'd be close until about 80mph then its bye-bye little scooby.

Just because its AWD doesn't make it invincible. Put down your copy of Super Street and get a clue.
