I got my van for free from my parents since they needed to get rid of it and my band needed a van. It runs but has some problems
- The tranny is roungh: it won't downshift to passing gear and is a little jerky
- the engine SOMETIMES will idle a little and stall after I turn off the ignition
- I would love to do a 4x4 conversion but don't even know where to begin
...These are just a few issues off the top of my head. It's a work horse though...any suggestions?

Check the transmission fluid by having the engine idling in NEUTRAL and on level surface. If the fluid is dark and smells burnt, you may get away with just changing the fluid and filter. If the transmission won't downshift, the kickdown linkage from the carburetor to the transmission may need adjustment. Worst case scenario is the transmission will need rebuilt.
The problem with engine continuing to run after the key is shut off is called "run-on" or "dieseling." This can be solved by shutting the engine off while the transmission is still in gear or you probably need to do a complete tune-up & check the timing and have the carburetor rebuilt.
4x4 conversions on Dodge vans hasn't been done in years that I know of. Dodge never made a 4x4 van, but they were sent out to conversion companies to have this done.

It can be done by a person with that kind of knowledge and knowhow. Anything is possible. Not saying I could do it, but someone out there can.

I saw a raised 4X4 B-150 the other day. It was an ugly brown color and the body style was one of those live-in-the-back types. Anyhow it had 4X4 graphics on the sides, and after a quick surveillance of the area to see if anyone was watching, I peered underneath and found that it actually had 4X4 suspension! I still am surprised that anyone would have wanted to do something like that to such an ugly Dodge, but it was done. :)
