Whenever Im in 4wd my front makes a popping sound, and has a slight jump to it, its kinda like my differential is slipping. The front tires still pull its just not a nice sound when it does. Anyone had this problem, it would be nice to know what it is before disecting my front end.

My last truck was a 97 1500 ram with the skyjacker 5" lift. It did the same thing. Look at your front driveshaft. The lift pretty much maxes out the shaft. I believe the popping is from the ears contacting around the u joints. I've heard of people grinding down these tabs slightly to get more clearance.

Mine 01 was making a clicking when 4x4 was engaged and it was my left and right front u-joints (The ones on the axle)

if those ideas don't work, check the angle of ur driveshaft. if it's too steep, u'll put a lot of strain on the shaft u joints. the popping could be when they get un-binded, if this happens under heavy(or not) gas,, boom!! u'll need new joints. one other thing, (look at the u-joints first, all 4 of front) if it turns out not to be the u-joints, have someone look into your transfer case. most are now chain-drive and the popping could be the chain jumping. this will only happen in 4wd and will allow the front to pull. after awhile though....boom! u'll need a new chain and gears(maybe whole new case, if it happens under a lot of pressure)

sorry so long.....hope it helps!
